As a long time G30 owner and now a new G30s owner Id have to say pocket carry is not an option IMHO, not to mention the heavier weight from 45acp vs 40sw. .

You won't pocket carry the 30s I can guarantee that, you will need a holster (like the crossbreed you mentioned). The 30s is not as snappy as the 27 in the recoil department but it's not a big enough difference to drive a buying decision. I think it would be a mistake to trade. I have reached the conclusion (after shooting the Glock 30s many times) that the guns greatest strength is as a BUG for Glock 21 owners. If you want a only one .45acp Glock then I would get the normal G30 in gen 3 or 4.

IMHO, I would keep the G27 & save for the G30! You said your G27 has no issues, this alone would make me keep it. I don't think I could part with my G27. I think this a great gun, really fun to shoot, & ammo is much cheaper, unless you do reloads!

The Glock 30sf I have is bigger than my XDm compact 45. The 30s would probably be the same size as the XDm. The only way the Glock would be smaller is if you found some nine round flush fit mags for it. I have some, and it does make the Glock smaller.

I do not go overboard in this, but after 26 years of marriage, the purchasing of firearms is non-negotiable, I do not ask. I do not expect her to ask me about her purses/shoes etc, and there is only one thing I do this on, and again it is firearms. Besides, finally she is realizing the need to protect oneself and she has taken one of them for hers (great).

I have owned and carried both the G27 and the G30 along with other glocks. I am going to tell you the truth when I say both are awesome carry guns and not at all perfect as to size and comfort. If you can carry a G27 size Glock you can carry a G30. The G27 has it over the G30 in size and quickness of alignment for most people. For me the G30 does not have the twisting recoil like the 27 and once you get it going you can rock and roll. I like them both but now carry a G23.

I am going to look in to saving for the 30s. Probably by the time the whole "scare" is over with I can save up enough to buy one and actually find it and ammo locally.

To the people that have a 30s and newer Glocks, how has the reliability been? I know that the ejection issues have been sporadic but has Glock done a pretty good job fixing the cause of it or not.

There is one video I found on youtube that kind of worries me. He is shooting a 30s and one of the shells does not eject with a lot of force and just plops on to his shooting hand. He does say that he was using handloads in the comments section.

Besides that video every video I have seen of the 30s shooting looks good.

One video made you worry? Just buy it, if it has issues, send it back, sell it, etc. It's not exactly a huge investment of money.

Being a .45 guy, i will still say keep your 27. It's a great gun, and one day you can get a .45, and then have two glocks, and pocket carry the 27 when you want. Your like me, alway's have a "want" but not a need!

First of all:
NEVER EVER SELL A GUN THAT WORKS PERFECTLY!

The law of Unintended Consequences (AKA Murphys Law) ALWAYS kicks in and the gun you trade it for will be a lemon. Guaranteed.

I have both guns. (My G30s is the hybrid 30SF/36, which is exactly the 30s). I carry the G27 in my pocket every day in an Uncle Mikes #4 pocket holster.

The G30s WILL fit in that holster. There is not THAT much difference in size and weight, but there is a difference. It will matter depending on your pants. Jeans will usually work, a lighter fabric will not take the weight and size.

That being said, if you pocket carry, stick with the G27. The only gun that works better in a pocket (in a real caliber) is the Kahr PM/MK series. However, Kahrs don't always work, as I found out. So stick with the G27.

When you get some $$, buy the 30s. If you get a good one and it works and pleases you, at that point you can sell the G27. But you will regret selling it. IT is the IDEAL combination of size, weight, price and caliber for a CCW.

When I was target shooting just for my pleasure, I would load my 45 ACP ammo down and put a heaver spring in my 1911 and could keep the ejected brass on my shooting bench. There are always exceptions to the rule. The average person will never shoot their Glock enough to know what it can and cannot do well.

To the OP: I have shot about 200 rounds of FMJ's through a new 30s (Blazer, Winchester, and RBS reloads) All were 230 grain, and I had no malfunctions of any kind... reliability is not a concern of mine with that pistol.

One is none and two is one. This of course applies to losing a gun to a potential evidence lock up if you ever need to use it.

I wouldn't sell the 27. Keep it, use it, carry it. Start putting away a few bucks a week until you have enough for the 30s. If you sell the 27, you'll regret it and buy another one eventually.


The other part of this equation is that you may be hard pressed to find a 30s for a while. Demand is going to go up quite a bit, and unless you get lucky (like I did yesterday), you're going to have a hard time locating one.

Another vote for keeping the 27. I'm not a fan of selling firearms, but if I had to the 27 is one of the last I'd get rid of
