27 vs 23

Hi,

I have been considering getting a glock 27, but just noticed it does not have the accessory rail under the barrel for ad ons. I would like to have a flashlight/laser for it. My 2 uses for this gun would be at the range and concealed carry, which is why I like the compact version.

I see the 23/22 would allow me the option for a flashlight, but its considerably bigger for concealed. I have held both, and both feel comfortable to me.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Is it not that big of a deal to be able to have a flashlight for low light shots?

I'm a noob to Glocks, so forgive my ignorance. Through all the research I have done, Glock fits the bill for me and feels the most comfortable in my hands.

Some people have no problem carrying the 23, but even though it is by far my favorite handgun. It's to big for me to conceal.

+2. I prefer a hand held tactical flashlight and have found that lazers promote poor technique over time. Other than in winter, I couldn't CC either other then with a ankle holster.

Don't like the short grip on the 27. Sold it for a 23. Love the 23.

Alright. I might just get the 22/23 instead. I might buy a Taurus PT 709 slim from a buddy for $150 with less than 100 rounds through it for CC.

I dont remember which I held in the store, if it was a 22 or 23, but whats the difference? From the Glock website, it appears the 23 is a little smaller.

You would be making an excellent choice with 23Gen4. My favorite semi-auto pistol by far. Enjoy.

The G23 can do it all, that's the one to get.

The 22 is full size. The 23 is a compact.

My 23 gets carried very often, but I have a single stack small gun that I use more. The Taurus and glock would be wise choices.

The G23 is Glock's "compact" model. Most guys think its just about the best size/weight/capacity/firepower package they make. The G22 is their full size .40 model, picture the gun riding in most police holsters. Unless you wear a jacket all year, the 22 is a little big to CCW. The G23 will get the job done perfectly and is easy to carry. The G27 is a DREAM to carry and simply disappears under light clothing. I use mine more than any Glock I own. It's in my pack ready to go to work with me tomorrow in fact. Ok, so it doesn't have a rail, good! I prefer holding my lights in low light shooting situations, not a big fan of lighting up a big bright beacon to tell the bad guys exactly where to shoot. And like a guy said above, lasers are overrated in my opinion. They are cool newb toys but I know very few LE or military gunfighters who who use them. Get yourself a 27 and a quality hand held light. Then add a spare G23 magazine for high capacity reloads and you've got the perfect setup. It's what God carries when he's working in bad neighborhoods.

Of the Two? G23, hands down.

Full grip for up to medium-sized hands, full ballistic performance w/ the 4" Bbl., and an accessory rail.

Don't think capacity is an issue, and the G27 is a little easier for an appendix-carry.

But for a compact work-horse? Definitely, go w/ the G23.

When a want something a little smaller and lighter, I carry a G36 .45 ACP. I'm also in the market for a - Walther PPS .40 for a really slim IWB pistol.

The 23 gets my vote. I carry it every day. Get a good IWB holster and belt and there's no issues. I had a 27 and there wasn't much difference in my opinion.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I will probably go with the 23 then, even though the 27 is a really nice looking gun also. Hmmm... Might have to get both, but only one gun for now. I think the size of the Taurus I'm going to buy will fullfill my CC weapon for now (and I can't beat the deal), so 23 it is!

HOLD UP. Can't I make the 27 feel like a 23 at the range with an extended clip, and it will also serve its CC purpose with its small size? I wish picking which Glock was as easy as picking what to wear each day (Military, uniform) lol

I carry and have carried a full size gun for a long time. When I carried a Glock 23 (for a short time) I didn't find the slightly larger size of the 23 over the 27 any issue in the concealment department.

Your advantages with the 23 over the 27:

1. True 4" barrel.

2. Longer sight radius.

3. 4 more rounds of .40 caliber goodness.

4. Full size grip.

5. Accessory rail.

Disadvantages with the 23 over the 27:

1. Slightly more weight (not by much though)

2. Slightly larger size.

In my opinion, the advantages by far outweigh the disadvantages.

Glock 27 Advantages over the 23:

1. Ease of concealability.

2. Weight (not by much.)

Disadvantages of the 27 over the 23:

1. Decreased capacity.

2. Short grip. (Can be offset with magazine mounted grip extension.)

3. Decreased sight radius.

4. Short barrel.

5. No accessory rail.

Some people have stated they find the recoil of the sub compact Glocks, specifically the 27 very abrupt and snappy. This hasn't been my experience but some have reported it. You may want to shoot one before you commit to purchasing one.

Also, I find the sub compact Glocks are difficult for me to get a full combat grip on them from the holster. I don't have this problem with the compact Glocks such as the 23. I like both guns but I gravitate to the compacts and full size guns over the sub compacts.

YMMV. I hope this helps.

Imho, it is the double-stack that creates the issues with CC. By extending the magazine you lose the sub-compact benefits.

Nope, that doesn't work. You don't need more ammo capacity at the range bud, you "need" a longer sight radius. Besides if you get the 27 you don't want to train with a larger grip, remember the whole "train how you fight" slogan? Get the 23 (K.I.S.S.)

I've owned and carried the 22, 23 and 27. The 23 is my favorite of the three and I carry it almost every day. That said everyone is different so what works for me may not work for you.

As far as the Taurus I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine. I will never make that mistake again.
