I prefer the compact size over the subcompact.

Compact

Without getting into why I don't own a .40, I'll say that I've owned the 26 (same size as the 27) two different times and ended up selling them. The difference in concealment for me was hardly noticeable with the larger "compact" 19. The difference in shooting and manipulation was huge. JMO

I use a 22 at work, a 23 for fall and winter carry and a 27 for summer carry...so I like them all. For me there is a big difference between the 23 and 27 for concealed carry, not the length of the slide, but the grip. I'm skinny and the grip will print on the 23 without a jacket.

I put Ameriglo pro sighs on my 27. It extends the rear sight to the back of the slide giving you just a bit more sight radius. I've never had a problem with the short grip, although a grip extension is nice for longer range sessions. Carry the 22 mags for reloads and you've still got plenty of ammo.

I use a weapon light at work but have never felt the need for one on an off duty gun. If it is going to pull double duty as home defense though the rail would be nice. If you can only have one the 23 is the way to go, but the 27 has a number of advantages in certain situations.

You are looking for a Gen 3 or 4 Glock. I have a Gen 3 G17 - no accessories yet, though.

I like my 23 & 22. Dont like the short grip of the 27. I bought one shortly after their introduction and sold it a year later.

Personally shot both and own gIII currently only because I haven't bought. GIV yet. The gIV with no grip added is like a sf type and much nicer in my hands. GIiI is like the med grip on GIV. I also love the mag release on GIV. Stippling is nice too.

Only thing I say is not better is trigger. GIII still better IMO on trigger.

I'd go with the GIV and never look back personally.

I called Glock before getting my 30s and they told me there is no date for the gen 4 30s, I asked if it would be this year and the gentleman said he didnt think so. My choice was between the XDM 45 and G30s, I could'nt be happier with the 30s even though I prefer the feel of the gen 4.

I would think it's just a matter of testing a Gen4 config of the G30S before it can be released. The G30S slide fits and functions on a Gen3 G30SF frame, surely it will fit and function on the Gen4 G30 frame. I have a hunch the G30S was released with the Gen3 G30SF frame because the testing for the LAPD long ago was done with that config.

I can't think of any changes required for a Gen4 G36 slide from it's current config. The Gen3 G36 uses the same RSA as the Gen3 G30/G30SF and Gen4 G30 (SP08063). What else would need to change in a Gen4 G30S or G36 slide other than the Gen4 designation stamped on the slide?

Likely there is a marketing reason to tie the Gen4 G30S release to a Gen4 G36. The better the G30S gets the greater the threat to G36 sales which is already a low volume model for Glock. If so, then it will be SHOT Show 2014 at the earliest.
