Not enough .22 ammo
I talked to someone at CCI today. He said people are just buying it faster than they can supply it. Most stores sell it the same day they put it on the shelf. Theres not enough to supply all the stores.
He said they are shipping out about 3 million rounds of rimfire a day.
And it should slow down as soon as everybody fills their basements.LOL
Only problem is they are going to drive the prices even higher. I thought it was already about 3 times too high.

My local academy has relocated the 22LR I use. It's now about 15feet in the air on the archary isle. Has been in stock last month every time I have went. Not all the other 22 that is with all the other ammo is out of stock.

According to the man at Walmart they are not supplying it at all. He said that they haven't received any .22's in weeks.

Cabelas has .22's - like Federal bulk - at a fair price - supposedly only on short back order, or so it says.
Is the .22 shortage countrywide?

Confirmed shortage here in south central KS. No .22 anywhere. CB's and shotshells only, with an occassional 50 rd. box marked $8.00 but those are scant to none too.

Confirmed 22LR Federal Champion Ammo Can! 2100 rounds for $93 isn't bad!
Edit - I just ordered two. It's in stock. To be delivered 1/11/13.

I haven't been able to find .22LR bulk packs anywhere locally at either the big box stores (wallyworld, dick's,etc) or at local gun shops.
I just ordered some off of Cabelas, thanks for the tip!
ETA: forgot to mention I've had a heck of a time finding the bulk packs anywhere online too.

None around here. And, none at Cabelas, either. None of my favorite online retailers have it.

Back in 08 I learn my lesson so as soon as I started to see more supply I started buying little by little, at some point I had 20000 rds of .22LR but been using some so I'm glad I got some when I could.

Walmart has been out of everything I shoot.
I was at the LGS though and found three boxes of CCI SV 500 round boxes for $28 each. I bought 2 and my friend bought the last one. $28 for CCI SV is a good deal even without this whole ammo mess.

It seems to be in short supply here in central Iowa as well. Everywhere I go has plenty of .17 HMR, .22 Mag, and .22 short though.

Oh my, is there some kind of ammo shortage again?
I'm glad I stored up, like, when there wasn't a perceived crisis about that has driven panic buying.

Mine too! It's great plinking ammo. But the difference in accuracy between Federal Bulk and CCI is obvious.
Same gun (Ruger Mark iii, same distance (10 yards), same shooter (Me) - My Federal groups were half-dollar size. My CCI groups were one big hole the size of a quarter.
