Advice needed on potential purchase :)

Been hunting around my area for a 4 inch GP100 without much luck.

Local range has a 3 inch GP100 rental they offered me for 499. Their normal price is 599.

They insist it has only been there for just over a year (take that w a grain of salt).

Question for ya'll: is 499 a good price for a rental GP100?

Told them I would mull it over for a few hours.
Thx in advance for the input!

I would be worried it's taken a pounding. Plus, that's not that good of a price for a used GP100, at least where I'm from it's not. Try Gunbroker etc. JMO.

Thanks!

The abuse also worries me. Plus I am really wanting a 4 inch. Maybe I'll hold off.

Btw - wasn't too sure what these guys are going for lately. I had my eye on a s&w m&p w range kit for 535 at another shop. Thinking about pulling the trigger on that v

Don't settle for something you really don't want. Plus it's a range gun and $100 off new really isn't a deal.

Being a range gun, I would pass. Not saying a close examination might reveal otherwise but it's likely to have been ridden hard. JMHO.

I'd wait for the 4" model. Besides all that, it has better balance than the 3".

I'd wait. You'll still be wanting the 4 inch then be pissed in a month or two that you spent the money.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction guys!

Ended up going with the m&p range kit in 9mm and man oh man is this thing nice. Will still keep my G19 near and dear, as it is my ccw, but I am impressed w the m&p.

Now to sell my ppq so I can fund that 4 inch Ruger - which is nowhere to be had in my area :/.

Nothing wrong with the M&P. I own 4 of them, as well as multiple Glocks. All are great guns.

That's my take as well. Hold out for a new one, they'll be around, just might take a while. Don

I owned a blue 3" for a short time and if I were buy another it would be the 4". The accuracy is noticeably better and like Bac said, so is the balance. I'd hold out BUT.. If I had to buy a range rental gun I would want it to be a GP100.

Main - ruger is the only gun I would consider buying that was a rental. A while back, I picked up a mkiii 22/45 rental for sale from the range and it ran just fine (got a much better deal on that than they were offering me this time around). Wanted a longer barrel and replaceable grip panels so I sold it and got a new one.

The GP100 might be one of the best equipped to deal with the abuse and still come out smelling like flowers. If it had been the 4 inch, I would have seriously considered it.

I would want a much lower price to consider a rental gun.

Yeah, but not for $500.

I personally like the 3" GP100 than the 4" as far as handling and balance goes. However, I wouldn't be shelling out $500 for a used GP100 unless it's plated with 24-carats gold.
