Looking for a 16" 10/22 Barrel...

Anybody know where I can find a factory 16" (16.25, 16.5, whatever) barrel for a 10/22?

Nowhere seems to have them in stock.

Thanks!

Most 10/22 owners use their barrel take-offs for tomato stakes. I kept two(2) just for grins - 18.5".

Might try over at rimfirecentral.com, there might be some lurking there.

Best.

Never seen them that short. I do have a heavy barreled 18 1/2" barrel on my 10/22 and the proportions are just about right. The 16-16 1/2" barrel would look odd, unless you were going to make a bullpup gun...

ER Shaw makes a 16" threaded bull barrel. Don't know if you they're available now or not.

I am trying to find one also, but with a front sight post.

Seems like my only option is a gunsmith.

Found a few SS 16, threaded and unthreaded, (1022rifle.com) but never one with a sight.

Ruger makes it, but I can't find it.

Best bet would be to buy a 10/22 Compact, then sell the receiver and stock.

The compact would great to find, but no one has one. Gun Genie came up with a few, but when I called they all said they were out of stock with no idea when more would turn up.

Three of my local shops also know I want one, no distributor has them available.

Do you need the front sight?

If not it is easy to make 16" barrel from 18" barrel.

I am making a rifle for my little girl (7yrs old).

I have already cut and shaped the stock, painted it pink and now I just need to lop 2in off the barrel.

It will be small, like a cricket, but still legal.

I wanted to teacher her on iron sights, then move up to a red dot or scope.

She does pretty good with her BB Gun and iron sights I cut down to fit her.

Que's barrel work comes highly recommended on the Rimfire Central Forum. He should have no problem cutting the barrel down and moving the front sight back.

While I dont own one, the guys on rimfirecentral say the factory barrels that are trimmed down a little, rechambered and crowned by guys like Que shoot fantastic. All for a very reasonable cost, especially if you already own the barrel. Look into that forum for sure. Personally, I have a Green Mountain heavy taper.

I bought a couple 16" factory compact barrels off ebay over the years.

I stumbled onto a new compact with fiber optic sights last week and bought it on the spot. Then ordered a full size stock.

I think this is one of those special little guns that has a lot more versatility than most people appreciate. The only thing better might be a take-down model but I have not seen one in person.

FYI I got in touch with Ruger and anyone interested can order it directly from their parts department.

I didn't get a price though.

I just got off the phone with Ruger. (35 minutes on hold)

They will not sell me a 16in barrel. Only an 18in one.

Said of I want a 16, I have to send in the gun (complete gun) and they will switch it out, for a charge.

I did not get as far as how much, I asked him to check with his boss, he did, and I hung up.

So the search continues....

Everywhere that I have looked is out of stock or back ordered for the factory 16" barrel. Midway is saying they are not expecting any in until April according to their website. Your best bet is to either have the barrel cut and the front site set back or cruise ebay for a take off.

Been looking for one too, no luck.
The only 16", open sight barrel I can come up with is a Tac Sol aluminum bull barrel with the Tech Sights .920" front sight base.

Jim...I second the recommendation to send the factory barrel off to QUE. He can cut it down, move the sight back, and recrown it. I'd have him do the chamber while he has it. There are many on RFC that are getting better results from their Que'd barrel than some after market barrels like GM or ER Shaw. I had him do my bolt and it's great.

It's not an open sight barrel, but I got a 16.25" Rimfire Technologies Quantum barrel for approximately $300 a couple of years ago. I just went on their site and was shocked to see that they're now priced at $490...
