Fla Sen. Nelson's secound reply to me

Dear Mr. Nelson,
Thank you for response. While I agree that the tragedy in Newtown was horrendous I do not think a ban would resolve the issues leading up to and including this tragedy. Therefore I regret to inform you that I will NOT be voting for you in your next re-election bid as I have done in the past. It is clear to me that you are not in step with what the Second Amendment was intended to be. I will work tirelessly to do whatever I can to make sure you are not re-elected for another term when the time comes. You are not a friend of the Constitution therefore not a friend to me.
Sincerely

Got this as a reply from Nelson. Could somebody help me with what is trying to say. I don't know if he means that we should not have military type weapons or not.
Please let me know what your thoughts are on this reply.

Thank you for contacting me about protecting Second Amendment rights.

I grew up on a ranch in the Florida countryside and have been a hunter since I was a boy. I support a person's constitutional right to bear arms.

In 2008, the Supreme Court of the United States affirmed that the Second Amendment protects a person's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to military service, and to use that firearm for traditional lawful purposes like self-defense within the home. This is the law of the land.

I appreciate hearing your views on this subject. Hearing from you helps me to better serve you in the Senate.

Sincerely,
Bill Nelson

Sounds like he's trying to "Fluff" the subject all together to gain your support. Would his interpretation be that the "Weapon" be unconnected with military service? Or the "Person" owning such a weapon be unconnected with military service? The military was never issued AR15's. However Law enforcement does. Either way, the 2nd amendment still stands true.

He is being intentionally vague. Obviously, he does not want you to know his true position and he is trying to razzle-dazzle you. Like so many politicians, they say things like, they are “a strong supporter of the second amendment”, yet they vote like a gun grabber. He saw Our Dear Leader get away with it and if is a good enough tactic for Our Dear Leader, it is good enough for him. Most of the voters are fools and the politicians know it and capitalize on it.

I get this BS from my politicians in Washington State, all of the time. They do not fool me in the least.

Please don't just post it on here. Spread the word at your local gunstore, on facebook, or wherever you can get the word out that he is not our friend. And reply to him again with a firm, polite letter why his vague notion of hunting is not acceptable to you as a justification for his waffling on our rights. Demand that he clarify his position.

I got the same too. You can vote on his website http://billnelson.senate.gov for the AWB. Last I checked, it was 88% against reinstatement.

Just voted on his site. Does anyone know if any other senators, reps, governors, etc have any similar polls on their sites?

Hopefully he'll pay attention to the poll... and if not, I hope that's how he does in the next election.

Speaking out of both sides of his mouth. What else is new with politician?
"I hunt, therefore, I strongly support the 2nd Amendment. But mark my words, I will support the AWB legislation, when it comes up for a vote."

I never received any response to my letter so I suppose you should consider yourself lucky. My only question is why would you have voted for that *self-deleted* guy in the first place?

Nelson couldn't care less about your threat to vote against him, and his intentionally vague boilerplate non-answer is proof of that. He got your vote in November and he knows even if he votes to ban all privately-owned firearms it will be six long years before he runs again, you forget all about his anti-rights votes, or he decides to retire. ALL Democrats are Stupak Democrats, alleging "core values" right up until the moment they have to vote their stated values, at which moment they knuckle under to their Party commissars and vote as they're told.

I got it, as well. It's a canned response intended for wide dissemination. It's vague because it's probably being sent to everyone that's contacted him recently about gun control. Try not to read too much into it.

I got somewhat of a different reply. Guess we are keeping his office busy as it doesn't seem like chain mail as much.

Dear Mr. Ford:

Thank you for contacting me about policy proposals that seek to reduce gun violence in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown.

I am a hunter and have always owned guns, and I support the Second Amendment.

But assault weapons such as AK 47s are intended for killing, not hunting.

Solutions for reducing gun violence must address many areas, from protecting law enforcement and keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, to school safety, access to mental health services, and confronting a culture that sometimes glorifies violence.

I support reinstating the assault weapons ban and restoring the 10-round limit for ammunition magazines. And, I support universal background checks so that we can know if person buying a weapon has a criminal record.

I appreciate hearing your views on this very important issue, and I will keep them in mind. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

Sincerely,
Bill Nelson

My response:

Dear senator Nelson:

In response to your reply; Yes, ALL weapons are designed for killing, not just Military style weapons. They wouldn't be much good if they didn't kill. I'm sure you’ve been pondering, why does a law abiding citizen need a military style weapon. Well the answer is, we need them for the same reasons that Law Enforcement need them, and that is Self Defense! Ever see a cop show up before a crime? Me either! However, the first person on the crime scene is almost always the victim! The supreme court ruled that it is not a police officers duty to protect you. His job is to enforce the law, and arrest if possible those that have committed a crime. The responsibility of ones safety is left to ourselves.

Taking the tools for self defense away from law abiding citizens will leave us vulnerable, and open to those who do not follow and respect the law. It's hard to fend off an attacker in a home invasion that has more firepower than we do. This is the same reason that the police carry such weapons. The issue is; how can we get the criminals to comply with the current laws already on the books? I would suggest stronger penalties for crimes involving firearms, even for first time offenders.

Sincerely. David Ford

Keep writing him. Hopefully we will wear him down!

Someone in his office must have seen this thread. I received this afternoon the same response as GunHo198. His answer doesn't surprise me but I note that, other than his observation that some guns can kill, he doesn't explain how a weapons ban will actually achieve anything. I honestly cannot understand how these people keep getting re-elected.
