CMP sent me a beautiful rifle!

A week ago I was complaining about the latest 200 rounds of 30-06 that I got from CMP and that it was pretty crappy looking.

Well, Thursday the FedEx man brought my latest Garand and it's beautiful. It's a post-war Springfield, service grade, re-barreled 1/55. I don't think the new barrel was shot much or at all, muzzle measures 1, throat 2. Bore is bright and shiny.

If that's not enough it has a complete new matching stock and hand guards.

I don't know if it mattered, but I included a small donation in my order for the CMP. I don't think I've seen a prettier $650 Garand!

Latest Garand on the bottom, totally refinished Orion7 NM garand on top.

Congrats. You picked a great battle rifle.

Now, set up a target 500 yards away and have fun with your Garand.....like I did in the summer of '57.

Do they make airsoft/gun $40 quad rails for it? I'd put a ncstar 12-60x scope on it and get some 2000 yd range time w/ extreme shock ammo. For sure get a polymer folding stock and...!!!!!

...oh wait the anesthetic is wearing off...coming out of the ether... What was that crap I was writing?

Reality: That's a beauty. Brings me back to a time when one bought a rifle, shot it and mastered it w/o one friggen mod. Ranging by iron sights is pretty darn effective and 30-06 is as good as it gets. Enjoy.

The good old days... Again what a fine rifle!

Very nice indeed!!

I've purchased six M1 rifles from the CMP in the past dozen years and I've never been disappointed.

How difficult is it to find ammo? What is the average cost? More or less than .308?

The surplus Greek ammo that the CMP has left is 200 rounds for like $114 delivered, unfortunately that doesn't include clips.

Very nice. Here's mine. Hope you don't mind. But a thread can't have to many Garands can it?
