S&W 500 mag

I crossed one more off my wish list today. Found a 4" S&W 500 mag and can't wait to try it out. I now have 44mags, 454, 460mag and now a 500 so if grizzle ever show up in E. Tn. i'm covered. I can't get pic's loaded to photo bucket for some reason but when I get this worked out I will post pic's. I have two rifles coming in next week so I need to stop buying guns and start buying leather and glass but wish me luck with that. Thanks

I always wanted to pick one of those bad boys up! Congrats!! Keep buying guns and hold on the leather and glass...you will be able to pick that stuff up any time. Can't say that for the guns though.

I picked up a 8 3/8" model a few months back. Awesome fun, more than my DE .50

I thought about buying a 500 Mag, I shot a friends numerous times, but I bought a Desert Eagle in 50 AE and thats plenty powerful enough for me. I know that the S&W 500 is about 30 percent more powerful but I always liked autos a little better and I can convert it to 44 mag with just a barrel and magazine change.

Good luck!

30%!!! More like 80% or more if you compare loads from Hodgdon's data base. Even more of an edge if you load the .500 Mag out to use the full cylinder length.

50DE is stout but not even close to the .500 Mag. Don

I take a 4" S&W 500 on certain remote float trips in Alaska when around brown bears. Great gun, along side my Marlin guide gun in 45-70, I sleep pretty well. For ammo, Ultramax has some pretty affordable (relatively speaking) 500 S&W ammo. Very low powered and fun to shoot. Again, relative being the word. For full power loads, Buffalo Bore has some great offerings. Can't recall specs, but their hard cast stuff feels twice as powerful as the Ultramax. Brings the beast out in the gun, that is for sure. Enjoy. You bought one hell of a gun. The size I understood. The power, I could read up on and appreciate. The thing that surprised me about the 500 S&W was the quality of the action in general, including the trigger. Terrific weapon in many ways. If you carry on your hip, put it around back further than normal and let the hip bone support the weight. Even on a gun belt, it will sag down some otherwise. Many folks like chest rigs, but I like the hip. I have however found it is much improved slid a bit further back.

I don't know if you have ammo yet but this is one of the cheaper places I found, not sure if it's the cheapest

I used to have an 8 3/8" barrel .500 and it had plenty of kick (using the above rounds). Good luck with that 4". Sounds like a nice revolver.

Congrats. When you get your pics sorted out please consider getting a pic of the 44, 460 and 500 together. I have a 6.5" 629 and a 460XVR. Having big boomers is fun even though I have no practical use for them.

Please let me know what holster you settle on for your scoped .500 S&W. I always have trouble with mine printing.

Thanks everyone, I think I will enjoy it. I bought some ammo "ouch" so now I have get a set of dies because three dollars a round is a little much. Scopes will be for other guns this one won't be getting one. I will most likely use a simply rugged or a trailmaster holster. Thanks again
