I have been a long time AK guy but recently started picking up lever action rifles when I see them.

I only have 2 so far but I'm hooked. Post pics of yours

1965 Marlin 336RC 30-30. This one has been on the shelf of my local "All things Tactical" for 3 solid years. I finally decided to liberate her last month.



1967 Glenfield 30 short mag 30-30. I bought this for my 15yr old son for his birthday this year.

I like them very much. Only have a ranch hand in .45lc so far.

Congrats on the rifles. The only one that I have in my safe is a Winchester Model '94 that my dad bought when he was in the Army. Lately I have gotten really interested in them and am wanting to pick up one also. My dad's was the first real rifle I learned to shoot on and absolutely loved shooting it.

For Xmas this year my best friend got a nice .22 lever action that I'm wanting to shoot. Seems like it will be a lot of fun.

Something special about a lever action. I have a Marlin Guide Gun 45/70 I use on remote float trips in Alaska. Floating 100+ miles on arctic rivers, nice to have some bear protection. I also bought a Henry Big Boy Deluxe in 44 mag. She is a beauty. Will be buying more lever actions. A 30/30 will be next.

Yeah, I know putting a Red Dot on a beautiful rifle like that is vulgar but my eyes demand it.

I've been wanting to buy a marlin 336 in stainless for a couple of years, but everyone says they are putting out a poor product and better wait till they relearn how to put them together.

Hit the pawn shops and look up the date codes. Neither of mine are pre-Remington buy-out.

In my opinion, a good lever action will hedge all political bets.

Lever guns, especially Marlins, are righteous! If you have an appreciation for history and tradition, the old west, guns that were used for a hundred years by hunters, trappers, and ranchers, a lever gun or two (or more) should be in your collection.

I've heard that to but I've had no problems with this one.

Marlins in .357 that were built before the company was bought out (2009) can be found. Launch a search on Gunbroker and GunsAmerica, local pawn shops and gun stores and you'll find one. You want a Model 1894. You might also consider a .44mag. These rifles are worth the effort, the wait and the price.

Yup, love my levers. I hated selling my Henry, and 1866 when I was married but one day I will own them again as well as an 1876 in .45-60. Currently I still have a couple Marlin 39's (A and M) and a Marlin 336 on the Marlin side of the house. Honestly though, I'm more of a Winchester man and still have an 1873, a couple of 1892s an 1886, and a Model 94. Granted all but the Model 94 are reproductions, Uberti, Rossi and Browning, but they are still pretty true to the original design. I may even have to add another Marlin 1895 to the collection but finding one of the old CB models isn't as easy or as cheap as it once was.

I've got several lever action rifles. I just picked up a Trapper 1894AE recently, and just replaced a cracked stock few days ago. Levers are a lot of fun, and I've been shooting them since I was a kid.

My favorite is a blued Marlin 1895 guide gun in .45/70, non-ported. Love it. I use a Leopold scout scope on a x/s forward mount, and think of it as a 100 yard rifle. It's handy for almost anything.

My EMF Hartford Rossi is a .357/.38 that didn't like .38 Special ammo. If you cycled the lever too fast, the round would pop out the top of the reciever. The solution was to use a "Snakebite" mould that was part of a group buy maybe 10 years ago when I was heavier into SASS. This bullet is a 160 grain RNFP but it's longer than other designs. Now I load this bullet in my .38 Special loads and the function problems are gone. IIRC, a few of the Marlin shooters also had this problem running .38s through their 1894 rifles as well so there were some of those shooters too that got in on that group buy as well.

Big levergun fan here. I'm in the market for a pre safety Marlin 336 in .30-30 in 90%+ condition. Not an easy find as most people that buy lever guns use them often. Lugging a gun through the woods, in and out of the truck, and up ladder stands puts wear on them quick.

In my area there is a lot of good deer hunting at close range in wooded areas, perfect for a levergun. Not that my Rem700 in .270 with a 3-9x40 wont hunt good in the woods, there is just something about taking a deer with iron sights.

Love them. I have a Marlin 336 that is a couple of years newer than yours (1967) that is a real beauty and a slick handler. I wouldnt trade it for anything. I also have a Rossi 92 in 38/357 that is a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. Handles .357 and .38 rounds without a difference.
