The wait is killing me, 460 conversion

I ordered a 460 Rowland conversion for my G30 about a month ago, and the days seem like weeks! I have a Springfield 1911 chambered for 460 but that's a big heavy tank.

I can't wait to see how the little G30 handles the monster. The other thing making me impatient is that I have a hog hunt in two weeks, and was hoping to bring my converted G30 with me. I have my fingers crossed.

Has anyone ordered a conversion from Rowland lately? What was your turn around time?

I assume you bought your 460R conversion from 460 Rowland, LLC at 460rowland.com?

Have you seen the news quoted below? It's tucked away under the Ported Glock-30 Conversion Package at http://shop.460rowland.com/conversio...?product_id=66 but it applies to all Glock 30 barrels (I corrected the spelling errors in the text below). You may want to check with them on which vendor will supply your barrel. In the past, the barrels were made by StormLake in the USA, but that is about to change (or maybe already has changed) for the Glock 30 barrels it appears.
"Furthermore; we have been placed on indefinite back order by our US suppliers for any glock-30 barrel, with no delivery date projected.

As a result, we have searched the world over and discovered a wonderful little company in Austria putting out very high quality barrels ... and they can deliver! These wonderful barrels are professional and military grade gun steel but require considerably more work on our part to make them ready for the mighty .460 Rowland. Testing has been complete and we should have, COMPENSATED Glock-30 , military grade carbon steel 460 Rowland barrels for the Glock-30 very soon.

Unfortunately, we still have not sourced barrels long enough to receive three large ports so the Glock-30 will only come in the fully compensated version for now."

Yes, I ordered from that site, but that was not posted when I ordered, it said in stock. Oh well, no *****ing on my part, I know how jammed everyone is, just hoped to have on my hip for the hog hunt. Looks like the 1911 will be making this trip.

GTR45, thank you for that info.

You're welcome. Don't be surprised if the wait time is close to 10 weeks for a Glock 30.

I'm very curious about the source of the Glock 30 460R barrel you will receive with your order. Please post in this thread when you receive your conversion kit if you can identify the barrel maker. If they send an Austrian-made barrel, I'd be willing to bet they get them from IGB Austria, but I don't know that for a fact.

Good luck with it

I ordered the compensated 1911 conversion from 460rowland.com on 9-Dec-2012 and it shipped 29-Jan-2013.

During the wait, I received at least one email update that they were swamped and processing orders as fast as they could.

Mine was ordered 2/2/2013 and I can't get an answer to emails after several sent. The promise was "3 week delivery"

I spoke with Tom yesterday and he advised they just got a shipment of barrels delivered. They would next ordinarily go to his gunsmith for work, but the gunsmith's father unexpectedly died and he is out for a bit.

My guess is you're a couple weeks out. He said he was in stock on G21 conversions and he agreed to ship me the G21 conversion immediately in place of the G30 piece.

Very nice fellow, just sounded a bit overwhelmed.

Lone Wolf will ream their 45 ACP G21 and G30 barrels to 460 Rowland for $50.

http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.a...8&TERM=rowland

I'm having them make me a 6.62" threaded G21 barrel for my longslide project "Maximus"!

takes time...worth the wait.

I feel your pain. My G21 conversion took about three months to arrive...every day seemed like an eternity.

The 460rowland.com forum is also full of people asking this same question, but the owners are completely unresponsive to email.

I heard something about a fire and having to change locations...as well as a semi-recent posting on their front page that talks about supply problems as others have mentioned. I know it's hard to wait, but if you're in the queue I think your kit will eventually show up, and it will be well worth the wait. This thing is DABOMB (literally)...now it's just a matter of not being able to wait until the next range day! I seriously sit at work and daydream about shooting this gun.

Not sure if it even works, but you might try giving them a call? I emailed them several times with no response, then felt like a doofus when I found this:

Good luck!

The Wait

I feel your pain as well. I've been waiting almost a month for LWD to send me my 4.6" bbl. for my G21SF.

Emails do nothing. No response whatsoever.

They just leave you twisting in the wind.

Good luck,

AK

The bright side...

Sounds like the bright side to all this is that it doesn't matter where you order, it takes awhile...I've also heard reports of people getting conversions done by shops I'll leave unnamed (reputable just busy like everyone else these days) and taking over a year to get their gun back.

The reason I say this is a bright side is that it seems to imply no foul play is afoot...just a combination of the current political climate, and the fact the 460 has seen a surge of interest over the past year. In the long run, a larger community is also a good thing in itself.

Hang in there... In the mean time, you can stock up on ammo and reloading supplies!
