Glock 19 and IDPA

I am interested in getting into IDPA and I currently have a stock 19 and was wondering if I would be able to use it or if I need a 17 or 34 to compete. I would like to use the 19 since it is my daily carry and the whole thing about IDPA is Defense pistol.

also can I use my current 15 round mags and load them to 10 rounds or do I need to purchase 10 round mags for competition.

1. Your G19 is just fine for IDPA. It's quicker on the draw than a G17 or G34.

2. Use your 15-round magazines loaded to 10

3. Get a sturdy belt and IDPA approved holster, like a Blade-Tech.

4. I suggest Blazer 115-gr FMJ ammo

You can use your 19 just fine. Top shooters look for every advantage, such as another inch of sight radius. But it takes a while to get so good that a change in gun makes any noticeable difference.

If you stick with IDPA and shoot a lot, you might consider:
-- a second set of range mags, and mark them as such, so your carry mags do not get beat up.
-- a second 19, same reason

You REALLY need to look at the rules and not ask one rule question at a time. If you are confused after reading, post questions in the General Competion sub-forum:
http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25

But in answer to your question - yes, you may alter your gun in many different ways.

Beaver tail might not be allowed in stock service pistol division. Might be legal in enhanced. I'd look into that...

If it is a basic club match, most likely they won't care if it has it or not. My experience has been club matches are very low key run what you brung type event.

yes at local matches, just let them know what you may have that isn't quite legal and most likely they will let you use it.

i generally use my game gun (g34) for idpa, but i absolutely shoot all of my HD and carry guns in ipda matches just to make sure they can go the distance. i highly recommend everyone do the same.

so yes, use your g19, be safe and have fun.

I shot some local IDPA matches in the past and liked the G19/23 size the best. A good compromise between quick draw ability and sight radius.

yeah I have been reading and I think I got all my stuff selected to order so I can start going to matches and shooting. my setup will be as this:

Glock 19 (stock except for beavertail)
comptac paddle holster (I carry ccw in a raven concealment phantom)
comptac twin mag pouch
Wilderness easy fit 5 stitch belt
5.11 vest

I shot the last couple of club matches with my G27 and 40-9 conversion barrel. It made me focus on the fundamentals and helped me identify some areas that needed work.

Why not use your RCS holster for IDPA as well?
