Who knows how much an HK or Sig would cost if not for downward pressure on pricing by Glock.

Thanks to Gaston Glock, you can get a PPQ, a much better sidearm, for a comparable price to his K-Mart Blue Light special Glock.

I don't even think the 1911 was his best handgun design. Gaston is the father of the modern handgun but JMB was way more innovative. This is coming from a Glock guy, no comparison.

Glock made the automatic handgun ridiculously reliable and simple. He set an industry standard to what a gun should do/feed without needing handfitting and tweaking.

Comparing one of the greatest small arms designers ever, to a business man that had to hire a design team, for a pistol??? The only thing Gaston ever designed was curtain rods. It's like comparing Richard Petty to Will Ferrell, because of "Taladega nights".

Agreed. The "modern handgun" was invented in the early 1900's. The materials may have changed, and things like interchangeable backstrap added, but the design is basically the same.

that sounds closer to the truth than "he was a bigger pioneer than jmb"

again, glock did polymer more reliably than anyone else at the time. jmb did the b.a.r., the 1911, etc,etc.

Heck, the 1911 had "Flat" or "Arched" mainspring housings (backstraps) so even that isn't a new idea.

Does ANYONE remember the H&K VP70??? Likely NOT...it was the first (to my knowledge) polymer handgun - based on a select fire Military & Police pistol it never sold well on the commercial market...BTW - I saw one for sale for (IIRC) at the West Palm Beach Gander Mountain (19 Dec 2012) for (again IIRC) $650. It had a 'hi-cap' mag but what killed it was the terrible trigger pull - a trigger designed for a select fire pistol (pulled halfway was semi-auto, pulled completely to the rear was FULL AUTO - and that hard pull was left in the semi version) was too heavy for civilian use...THAT and at the time the world wasn't ready for a 'Plastic" gun...nor was the world ready for the Remington Nylon 66 - another 'plastic' gun...but IT sold better that the poor VP70!!! So perhaps ol' GG got his inspiration from one of these two forerunners of today's "Plastic" guns???

Glock made it popular, because Glock made it cheap. If Glock had put a $900 price tag on it, how popular would a Glock be? They wouldn't have landed as many .gov accounts, which makes a lot of people think that makes them "best". Until of course, SW started under bidding, now those same Glockophiles say it's low bidder.

And as I pointed out earlier, IMO, Glock has helped put downward price pressure on some mighty fine pistols. I think we can all be grateful for that. Hell, I was spending $700 on Walthers and $900 on HK. Those would probably be almost double if not for the Blue Light Special Glock.

Here's to you Gaston!! Not for the Glock, but for making better pistols cheaper.

I didnt say not even close based on the 1911 I just based it off all the Different/other/MANY designs Browning had a hand in...Gaston invented a decent pistol, and a few nick knacks..not quite in the same league

Did JMB ever make a ceramic gun that can go thru metal detectors and cost more than the chief makes in a month? Didn't think so.




JMB made so many innovative designs it's damn near unfathomable how mechanically incline he was. Glock has been a one trick pony for 30 years going. Not even close.
