need advice on stripped AR lowers

I am looking to buy a stripped lower either at a gun show, auction, or LGS. I'm not sure yet which brand to buy. In this market, I may have to buy what's available if the price is right.

My question is: Who are the worst companies? What brand names should I pass on?

For the most part a lower is a lower. Delaware Machine and AR57 are two that I've seem more than one report of being out of spec.

I've also seen problems with Black Rain Ordnance.

Add Roggio to the list of out of spec lowers, but it's been quite a while since I saw anything of theirs for sale.

Spike's, Palmetto, Bushmaster, CMMG, and Aero are all companies to keep an eye out for that generally make solid stripped lowers (although I am not a fan of Bushmaster's complete lowers), and all of those company are pretty readily available. Ironically, Aero probably makes most of those brands lowers on contract for those companies.

Also, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a stripped lower. There are too many companies out there cranking them out for you to spend more than you have to on one. You can expect a little price increase on them, but I wouldn't give in to people trying to rip you off. That's just me, though

My shop has spikes lowers in stock for 200.
Hogan, lmt, aero, are good... here in Ohio there is a place in Windham OH, Templar custom arms, I have used his lowers and had good luck he does his machining in house and does a nice job, he finishes them with ceracoat.

They are billet 7075 with integrated trigger guard think they are in the 300 range.

As best I can tell, the going price is about $200 on average. I personally refuse to pay over $150 for a standard lower post-hysteria. Pre-hysteria, I wouldn't go over $125 for a standard one, though I did pay $275 for a Noveske Gen2 FFL for my SBR build because I liked the roll mark.

My suggestion to friends looking to build is to hold out for the market to even out and prices to drop. Beats paying a $100+ premium for a lower, $100+ premium for a BCG, and double or triple standard prices for magazines and ammo.

Thank you all for the tips. I feel like Santa Clause because I'm keeping a list of who's naughty, and who's nice.

There are also a lot of companies suddenly taking pre-orders for lowers they plan to machine themselves who have no track record whatsoever. You pay up front, then hope for the best, I guess.

Stick with names you already know.

I picked up an Eagle Arms, IL stripped lower a few years ago that was nicer than my Colt lowers. Put good parts in her and runs like a swiss watch. Nice tight fit and finish to my upper also.

I used to think a lower was a lower was a lower....then I learned the hard way that lowers are subject to the same QC screw ups and manufacturing errors that everything else is. From here on out, I'm sticking with BCM, Noveske or LMT lowers for my builds.

CMMG had a bad run a while back, but they did take care of me when the issue was identified. Not the best customer service, but in the end, they did correct the problem.

The fact that a company did step up to fix their problem is good to know.

Out of spec magazine wells causing mags to not drop free (had to nearly rip them out, if memory serves).

I just bought a Stag stripped lower for $215 plus shipping from LAN World Inc. I ordered it last night, they still had 10 in stock. I passed two days ago when Aero Precision had their lowers in stock for $200, decided to pull the trigger yesterday and they were gone.

If you don't mind polymer you might look at an Omni.

Polymer lower for an AR is a problem waiting to happen, IMO.
