Dell PERC 5i

I have an old Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 5 146GB SAS drives in a RAID 5 running off a PERC 5i. Can I add a couple of 300GB SAS drives and expand the RAID into those or do I have to rebuild, partition and format?

Thanks.

The size of a RAID 5 array is (N-1) * Smin where N is the number of drives and Smin is the size of the smallest drive. So, you can add bigger drives but the RAID size is still, in your case, 4 * 146GB. Minus formatting.

It would be helpful, in the future, to know the O.S. you are using.

Yeah, that's what I suspected. I'll just put the new drives in a new VD.
