Agreed - just received a fresh order of Gen 3s this week and all had the covers...

Now this is starting to piss me off... not at you guys, but at Magpul. Or Brownells... or both.

I know, right?

I called Magpul as soon as I got them. They told me to call my supplier - in this case, Brownells. In Brownells defense, they DID say they would send me covers when they got covers... but that's been a while.

$14.20 for Gen 3

https://www.primaryarms.com/MAGPUL_P...mag557-blk.htm

They come in stock every few weeks or so as do the MOEs... I placed an order on the 13th and the 8th - they really do come up pretty frequently.

I think I have picked up about 10 Gen 3s and 15 Gen 2s by now... More than I'll need in my lifetime.

No need to ever over pay.

I LOVE Primary....

I got the windowed ones for $18 apiece... I think I did OK, but no covers. In the SEALED PACKAGE from Magpul. I'm beginning to think this was just a Friday afternoon f-up.

I won an auction on GB for 10 M3 pmags with dust covers. I paid a little more than I wanted, but I wanted the newer ones just to have something new and different...that and the thought of them stopping production came to mind. In any case, 4 of the 10 mags I got were M2s with no dust covers. Seller left me positive feedback when he got my payment, but I was rather angry that I didn't get what I paid for. He told me to return them and he will refund my money. He ran out of M3s and only had M2s. So, he ended up sending me 4 extra M2s for his error. They both work the same, IMHO. So I think I came out ahead on that deal.

While I have no problem with the M3, I've been stocking up on M2s as they're cheaper. I got 4 unwindowed on Monday from primary arms, and I have 6 windowed on the way that I ordered today from them.

Sent from the USS Sulaco.

I have some Gen 3 and Gen 2. I like them both equally, and see little difference. And the 3's came with the dust covers, but not the 2's.

Gen = generation.

Like, generation 2, generation 3.

MOE = magpul original equipment. In the context of the PMAG lineup, MOE = does not come with dust/impact cover.

You could just check out the product info at their website

http://store.magpul.com/category/PMAG

MOE = Magpul Original Equipment, the Gen2 PMag that now come with most AR's as original equipment, along with the Magpul furniture.

The case of 100 Gen2's I received from Magpul a month ago did come with covers.
The only PMags I have that did not come with covers are the ones that came with my rifles from the factory.

I have some brand new in the package Magpul MOE PMAGs. They are gen 2 and have no dust covers in the package. You can buy the MOEs separately.

Thanks for the info.

I have a line on a few MOEs. I wanted them to be GEN2, so I can use the Brownells coupler or the extensions that make them 48 rounds. So this is good news.

Not even sure what the dust cover is for, but don't think they'd be needful for competition shooting.

The dust cover fits over the top of the mag and is designed to keep dust/debris out when in storage and not being used. I believe that they also push the rounds down a bit to relieve the pressure on the lips of the mag. I typically keep my loaded mags in the safe with the dust cover installed.

I have a 20 rounder that the dust cover won't stay on though. Kind of annoying, but certainly not the end of the world.

The first I heard of Magpul was when the Marine commander banned them in Afghanistan. I have a bunch of them. I have mixed feelings about plastic feed lips. They seem to work well, but I have some heavily used military magazines that are 40+ years old and still working fine.

Recently, I have started to use AR-Stoner stainless steel magazines. I wonder how they compare with Magpul.

Those AR Stoner mags are pretty much CProducts Defense with a different floorplate marking. I have several of them and they seem to be the same.
The Lancer polymer mags have a hardened steel feed lip and are great mags. Much easier to find right now than the PMags are. I have been using them for a while and they run flawless.

Magpul's own PMAG coupler works with both the M2/MOE and M3 PMAGs just fine.

I got a load of Gen3 magazines last week from Brownells. I paid 12.30 for them. Then again I get the dealer discount.
