Sounds like a good idea to me. We have a tyrannical out of control government that needs reigning in.

Hopefully this will help with the ammo shortage and let me get to a range for more than ten minutes.

Political grand standing. It has not even been shown they are stockpiling anything. The 'outrage' is over the listed max amount of a 5 year contract coupled with a little bad math. The ammo is still ordered in batches as needed over the course of the contract at the set price which is valid until the max amount is reached if at all or the contract term expires.

People act like they placed an order for the full amount at once and that's why they can't get ammo. BS...you can get ammo because of your fellow gun owners, many of whom are buying to resale.

This is NOTHING compared to the guys buying ammo by the 10,000. And there are LOTS of them.
Freakin ridiculous. "The govt is out to take all our bullets." No, it's your freaking neighbor who bought 5,000 rounds of ammo and he doesn't even shoot. That's where your bullets went.
When hundreds of thousands of americans stop buying by the case, the ammo shortage will end.

Stupid law. The Feds should keep a 1 year supply on hand ALWAYS. This means having 1.5 to 2 years on hand some of the time.

Would you support this law when Ronald Regan was President?

Go for it. Maybe more bills like this will distract them from the really annoying ones...like the one that's going to pass the Senate in a few days regarding placing sales tax on online purchases.

I'll support pretty much any law that takes power away from the federal government.

I wish I had bought 10k rds few yrs back (when it was cheap) Most i recall ever buying is 1k rds at once.
I know of no requirement that I must shoot it within a month, year, decade.
I bought 500 rds of 9mm STHP decade ago. Still carry it. Shoot a few every time I practice (mainly shoot fmj)

+1

And some news reports are making it a big deal that DHS is spending 1,000 rounds more per agent per year compared to DoD per soldier.

Well, this turns out to 1,300 rounds per agent per year. As far as I am concerned, that is the MINIMUM, an armed LEO should shoot per year to keep up with their skills. That's barely 100 rounds per month!! DHS should buy more!!

I also find it scary that our soldiers are only shooting 300 rounds per year.

Political BS and nothing else. They locked in a price. I wonder how much more the taxpayer will have to pay if they purchases year by year. They're still going to buy the ammo and it will cost us more.

DHS has approximately 70,000 agents. How does the math work out on all of this?

100 practice rounds per month and 100 at each quarterly qual would be about 1600 per agent per platform. Everyone will qualify with a pistol and rifle so now we are at 3200 per year per agent.

3200 x 70000 = 224 million per year x 5 years = 1.1 billion rounds.

We still have not took into account the needs of FLETC, speclized units and additional platforms within the agencies.

you can believe what you want about the shortages, but if nearly every store in the country is out of ammo and they are getting nearly zero in there is more to the story than uncle fred ordering 1000 rnds. I've talked to a few store owners in my area who say they have to hit suppliers far and wide to get even a few cases total of .22, 5.56, 9mm, 40, and 45. private sales are a scapegoat for the problem, every store I've been to will sell no more than 2 boxes to any one purchaser, even the two gander mountains near me sell out in less than an hour

Maybe a bunch of the customers that clean out the Gander Mountains are undercover DHS guys?

I have seen more than a few places that have ammunition in stock, just at high prices. And there seems to be ammunition on Gunbroker... at high prices.

Feds aren't buying .22 or 9mm and they are probably the hardest to find.

The gun stores I have talked to are getting just as much ammo as before, the simply sell what used to be several days worth in a few hours.
