Any Agencies Shoot Only JHP?

What agencies out there shoot only duty ammo/JHP during their practice and quals? We've always shot with FMJ/MC and just shot duty during one of the annual quals, to rotate ammo. The cost difference is small for us. Just curious.

Duty ammo (Gold Dot 124 gr 9mm+P) 100-percent of the time, all the time, for everything.

We shoot only the fancy duty stuff - no ball ammo for us.

We have switched to only shooting duty ammo in training. It costs more but makes for better training and it's legally defensible.

Not us, we shoot very little of our duty ammo.

We generally shoot FMJ practice ammo such as Lawman or Blazer. We shoot our duty ammo once a year and get new. I rarely load and unload my duty ammo so its usually in good condition. I always slip some FMJ in my mags and squirrel away my old duty ammo for my spare mags on my entry vest. I've got quite a few extra mags for my duty pistol I like to keep loaded and somewhere handy, so my old duty ammo usually ends up filling them up.

USBP (and any Federal agency for that matter) shoots 100% duty ammo, 100% of the time.

Our duty ammo is Gold Dots. We use the ballistic equivalent Lawmans for practice. For actual qualifications it's duty ammo.

We shoot ballistic equivalent for quals (American Eagle) and old duty ammo (Federal), which is replenished every session.

WOW. A lot of departments with money to burn, especially the feds, spending our tax dollars. There may be only a small difference in cost between JHP and ball but no real advantage to shooting it all the time and that small cost does add up over time. I bought ammo for my department and I had to watch the budget. More bullets means more training. So we used ball for training and equals except that we would shoot up up our duty once per year. One equal out of 8 total - 4 day and 4 night.

Not necessarily the case. My agency used to always shoot duty during practice, now we do it only at quals

Same here, except when at FLETC. FLETC only allows frangibles.

Some stuff if you shop around can come in at the same price. We got non Talon Ranger once in .40 because there was a mix up on the order and it was the same price as our usual FMJ.

A few years ago, I put on a little competition shoot for some agencies in my area (mainly their reserve officers). One of the participating groups was the "CERT" unit from the state prison here in town. They apparently shoot 100% Speer Gold Dot and were given an ample supply to bring to the range. They promptly traded it all off to guys who wanted it for their off duty guns and stuff, even up, for FMJ, which they shot during the competition. Everybody was a winner, that day.

There is the 1 lead range. Must wear gloves, dust mask recommended, shot targets and brass go into special bins.

You'd think they store spent nuke rods there...
