Liberty Civil Defense .45 acp

I received some of this ammo for Father's Day. .45 auto at 78 grains, 1900 fps, 625 ft lbs. Has anyone here shot it? If so, what were your experiences? I performed a search but only one thread came up and it had no replies. Thanks for any information you can offer.

Liberty's "Civil Defense" loads, already very light in weight, tend to fragment early during penetration and penetration suffers- usually the base (which weighs makes up about 50% of the bullet's weight) makes it no more than 8-10 inches, if that.

This image (found here- http://libertyammunition.com/liberty-ammo-media/images/ ) is of the .45 ACP 78gr JHP that you have fired into bare gelatin-

Caliber Corner

and confirms the behavior of the design.

This test also shows more of the same sort of behavior-

It's is interesting stuff, but not something that I'd ever recommend for serious SD use. It's your bacon on the line, so the decision is ultimately yours. Good luck.

I imagine sectional density to be somewhere on par with a dime.

Guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions. I've always preferred heavy for caliber bullets, and never read too much into foot / pounds of energy calculations.

I'll shut up now, as I've never tried these.

Zombie Steve, this cracked me up.

WinterWizard, "Pure garbage" nice oxymoron.

I'll see how they work on water filled containers.
