Buck swims lake...

This is not uncommon around here. I've seen deer in the lake before. Bugs, dogs, wolves, many things will put a deer into the water.

My neighbor took this on Labor Day - not great camera work. But he had to scramble to find his camera and try not to disturb the deer.

Thought you guys might like to see it.

We were back country fishing in Canada and saw a moose cow with her young calf swimming across a lake to an island. The island was over 1/2 mile from shore. We edged the boat closer to watch and she made it clear she would climb in the boat with us to keep her calf safe.

Over the years we have seen several moose swimming but that was the only one that had a calf.

We also saw a bear swimming and he was way the hell out in a lake. He had to be crossing it for a shortcut rather just walking around.

There's a rectangular pond on the property behind me. About 100 yards x 200 yards. A few years ago my wife asked me if that was a deer was swimming across the pond. I didn't believe her at first. Sure enough a doe was making the swim. It surely wasn't to save time to get to the other side as it was faster to simply walk around. Maybe it just wanted to?

That was a nice looking 3 year old deer. Leave him alone for a couple of years and he will be a monster!

VERY common occurrence .... I hunt near large hills / small mountains surrounding a large lake and deer are KNOWN to swim across the lake, sometimes for long distances (1/2 mile, etc)
