Beef and beer stew

As it is officially winter here (water pipes are frozen)
I thought that I would post this wonderfull stew.

1/3 c finely chopped salt pork or bacon
2 1/2-3 lbs beef stew meat
3 large onions (sliced)
3 Tbsp paprika
1 Tbsp salt
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp dried marjoram
2 12 oz cans beer
1 c water
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
4 large potatoes (cubed)
6 carrots or parsnips ( thickly sliced)

Cook salt pork in large stewpot until rendered. add meat and cook over med-high heat until lightly browned. Remove meat from pan, reduce heat to medium and add onions, cook until tender. Return meat to pot and add seasonings, beer, water, tomato paste, and worcestershire.
Stir to combine thoroughly.Cover and simmer till beef is tender, about 1 1/2 hours. Add prepared vegtables; cover and simmer until vegtables are cooked. About 45 minutes.

makes 8 to 10 servings.
