Try Pho. It's great!

Pho is a Vietnamese broth/rice-noodle/herbs/beef dish that is outstanding if you like flavorful Vietnamese and Thai style food.

I read about it in a Tony Bourdain book -- he loved it -- and had to try it. I got some at a local Viet place, and it may now be my favorite dish.

My local place serves it with a plate full of fresh herbs like basil & cilantro, plus sliced hot peppers & bean sprouts. You add those to the bowl as desired, and the flavors really carry in the hot broth.

The beef is really thin sliced. My place also adds paper-thin slices of tripe & tendon. You can cut those if wimpy, but they are much better than they sound when in this dish, and I usually despise tripe.

For a culinary adventure, try pho. Yum!

Pho' is the food of the Gods.

You are now a Pho' addict. This addiction has only one cure, eat more pho'.

There is beef, chicken, and also a seafood version. I've had the tripe, but I prefer the flank steak or brisket version.
On the table there should be a brown sauce, called hosin. It's a sweet black bean paste. Excellent on the beef slices.
Also a bright red sauce, called shriacha, chili sauce with garlic.
Add a bit of each of these to your soup for an added twist.

Is the name of the resturant "Pho Hoa"? It is a chain from vietnam that is poppin up all over the country. They are excellent.

Enjoy your new addiction. If I could only have one dish everyday for the rest of my life, it would be Pho'.

My place is not a Pho Hoa, but I'll be on the lookout for one when travelling. My place is locally owned and operated.

I have tried the sauces, and they are good.

The Hoisin is great to use, together with some chopped garlic, cracked red pepper, and ginger, to marinate chicken in. Then roast the chicken (still coated with the marinade) on about 450 for 20 minutes or so. Good stuff, and simple.

Pho joints in the San Francisco Area sucks!!! Consider the numerous Vietnamese people living there, I can't fathom why, but it's crap up here. Can't wait to get back to the LA/Southern Cali area for some good Pho!!!

I enjoy Pho all the time. The cinnamon in the broth really makes it. I dig the tripe and tendon too. Wash it down with a vietnemese iced coffee!

Your pic is killing me! I'm off to my local Vietnamese restaurant. My favorite is the Pho Dac Biet and Pho Tai. I love the combo Pho with the tripe, tendon, flank all melded in that French consumne broth.

Hm. I found a lot of good ones in San Jose area. Ask Vietnamese, that's the best way. They know.

This turned out DARN good... Decadent!
Seafood Pho...
You can't really see how much noodles were in there in this foto...
Also, shrimp...

The Nuoc Mam fish sauce and Cilantro kick it up and help with the authentic taste...
