Fishing in San Antonio

For those in the area, I'm new to it, as is my dad. We want to go fishing, either bass/trout/catfish without a boat. Unless of course one of you has a boat and doesn't mind having friends along. What's a good place within an hour to go fishing without a boat? Any tips appreciated on what works well around here.

Try the Guadalupe River out near Sweeney close by Seguin. If you don't mind the drive, the state park named after the river is nice for fishing might be pushing the 1hr drive but it is well worth it. Big catfish last time I was in that area. Bass where okay and where bitting crickets like crazy.
