Anybody ever serve at NASNI?
Just curious if anybody here has served at NAS North Island in San Diego. I was there from 91-96 in 2 different squadrons - VS-37, and then VS-33 when VS-37 was decomissioned.

I wasn't stationed at NASNI but served on the Nimitz from 94-97. IIRC VS-33 was part of our air wing.

Yes, I was in VS-33 then. I made the 95-96 cruise on Nimitz. (I believe it was 95-96.) What department or division were you in?

Was that down at the OLF? I used to live in IB, a couple blocks down from the Plank, off Seacoast.

Chopperdog,
Don't know what "OLF" is but I think it is an auxillary field now and the last time I was there I think they turned the old barracks into some sort of juvenile detention center, I lived a couple blocks north of the pier and a block off the beach. Can't remember the name of the street though.

Sorry. OLF=outlying field. It is an auxillary field now. There is a pretty nice commissary there. I used to go shopping there since it was close to where I lived. Sometimes I really miss living there in SoCal.

NASNI
No, I never was stationed there, but made numerous trips to the Depot there as a civilian. Stayed at Coronado for survival school in the 80's. Was a West Pac sailor for about 1/2 of my career.

The Old Man retired out of HSL 45 Wolfpack back in the day.
Later I worked for Fedex on base. Dropped off some goodies for the Screwbirds occasionally.
Work on different bases now, I've spent time on NASNI, NAB, 32nd street,ASW, Subbase Pt. Loma, NRAD and SPAWARS. Only about a dozen of us know where everything is on all the bases. The military has an interesting way of addressing its addressing. Some folks just can't wrap their brains around bldg. numbers.

Was assigned to VAH-16 at Nas North Island right out of AQ 'A" School from 11/58 to 02/59 when the squadron was decommissioned. We flew the AJ-2 Savage, the Navy's first nuclear-capable Carrier bomber. Two reciprocating engines and a jet engine (with the intake on the top of the fuselage.)They were replaced by the A3D. I was transferred to Demons at Nas Miramar.
