Is going back into the military as a warrant officer worth it? I am asking because my husband is considering it.

What military? Could he be reinstated at his former level of rank? what duty postings would be available? All things that must be considered.

What branch was he in? Which one is he considering going into? Being a warrant officer is one thing, but doing what? How long has he been out? Need more info ;f

Sorry he was in the army before. E-4 when he got out. He has 6 years total service time. He is now working as a correctional officer and will have his assoicates degree spring 05. Recuiter offered warrant officer, army, and staying in corrections. (All depending on tests, PT test, ect. for the warrant board).

It pays more and with medical and BAH who could go wrong but as a warrant officer he is looking at a better position then say an E-4?

hell would be in a better position than an E-4. Warrent Officers are commisioned officers [atleast in the Marine Corp] and their pay, benifits, and housing is much better than enlisted personal.

Warrant Officers peak out at CWO-4. If your husband can become a Warrant then it's a sweet deal. They don't have the responsibilities of a regular Commissioned Officer yet still are officers.

Why not go back as a Commissioned officer once he gets his degree? Either way, Warrant or Commissioned he will need to go to either Warrant Officer Candidate School, or Officer Basic Course. So he might as well get more money out of it, and have more potential for advancement as a commissioned officer. Sure it is a little more responsibility. I was a 95B20 (MP) in the Army for 7 years, and a 95C (Corrections) train together with the MP's. Give some thought to the commissioned officer route, don't let the recruiter decide for your husband.

Warrant Officer is one of the best kept secrets in the US Army. They are not enlisted, nor are the Commissioned Officers. In most specialties they usually do not take on any Commandd Responsibilities. Their role is very specific (i.e. as an Aviator, PA, etc.). I had 3 WOs under my command and there were many instances when I wished I could have swapped roles with them.

What I would look at is if he was going to have to take a pay cut. Although I sincerely doubt it if a WO with 6 years prior enlisted would be making less than a CO.
