is the skyrocketing cost of beef as high where you live as it is here in western PA.

you're looking at prices around these ranges:

$15.29 lb -- filet
up to $13.79 lb for delmonicos
up to $12.09 lb for porterhouse
up to $9.99 lb for ribeyes/strip steaks
jeez, even sirloin is around the $5.99 lb range.

now we have some meat markets here where you can get steaks at $3.99-$5.99 a pound but, believe it or not, the quality of the meat isn't anywhere as good as the supermarket. AND you usually have to buy it in bulk (up to 20 pounds of beef) in order to get that cheaper price. if you don't buy in bulk the prices go up a couple of bucks.

not to mention Veal and Lamb are around that $10.00 a pound too.

chicken and pork always seem to be priced good and you can always get deals on that.

pretty soon i'm gonna have to take a loan out just to enjoy a good steak if the prices keep going up!! ;f

I've been getting Chuck Eye Steaks for $3.49lb. that are great...

And Boneless Beef Rib meat, not "Rib Steak", that works for steak too, as well as for killer beef stew type stuff...

that's a HUGE difference in price there for sure.

i'm curious as to what others are paying in other parts of the country.

Yeap prices for beef in my area has whent up. I'm eating more chicken and pork because of it.


Here's my typical meats prices;


ground chuck = avg $3.49 per/lb
ground sirloin = avg $4.99 per/lb
sirloin = $5.99 to $7.99 per/lb
skirt steak = $.7.49 per/lb
brisket tips = $8.99 per/lb

That's at one of my typical supermarket. Super Wal-mart and Dutch Penn has a few better prices but the quality is sometime lacking. Veal and Lamb has skyrocket while goat has drop in prices but availabilty is sparse. Fish as usually is still way high, but I did luck out and found shark steaks for $3.20 per/lb and tuna steaks for &7.99 per/lb.

like i said, the veal and lamb are way high here too. and most of the good fish that i like (grouper, haddock, and some others) are in that $10.99 AND UP -- just for frikkin' fish!!!! but you can get cod and perch reasonably priced.

swordfish and shark though are usually in that $10.00 range too.

at least the salmon is fairly priced in the $4.99-$5.99 range. not too bad. and somtimes the tuna is around there too.
