Grandfather's dog tag Part II

After the responses to my earlier thread, I have decided to start wearing my grandfather's dog tag (my brother has the other one). The only "problem" I have is that I also wear a silver cross on a piece of leather around my neck. When I wear both the cross and the tag either outside or inside my shirt, they bang together and make a whole lot of noise. I know the obvious solution is to wear one inside and one out, but wanted to see if there were any other suggestions. Also, what is the best form of necklace to use for the dog tag (that will not break easily)? Thanks again for the replies. ;?

Can a jeweler solder that cross or another cross onto the dog tag?

some guys taped their dog tags together in nam to keep them from rattling.
I'd say if you must wear them together, have a shoemaker make you a little leather envelope with a see through window for it. It will cost you maybe 8 bucks.

This weekend I'll be in the Clothing and Sales on Ft Hood. They have a silencer kit for dog tags. In the kit is a clear "sleeve" that the dog tag goes into to preventing them from clanking together, yet still able to be read.
I can pick one up for you if you like, or they might have them on some surpluss website somewhere.

As for the 'necklase' part I'd suggest the ol ball-n-chain deal that the tags came on. I think one might come in that silencer kit too, if not they are real cheep and can pick one up for you also. Otherwise those are also available at most any surplus store or website.

Do a search on: http://www.actiongear.com for the phrase "dog tags". For some reason my search results did not copy and paste properly but they have these for $3.99 a set (for 2 dog tags).
