S&W .38 special revolver

BOGS,

A friend of mine is offering to trade a snub nosed S&W .38 5 shot special revolver with my Tag Heuer 2000 automatic. Assuming the revolver is genuine, is it a fair trade?

Since I know next to nada when it comes to revolvers, it would be nice if some of you can post pics of this pistol. I haven't seen the gun, and my friend has yet to specify the model.

It's quite tricky to buy a used revolver, or any handgun for that matter, if you don't know what to look out for.

I have an excellent article by Massad Ayoob about buying used (BMW would wince at this word, they prefer the term Pre-Owned;f ) handguns, both pistols and revolvers. I can photocopy the article for you. This article saved me once from buying an abused Colt Python that I would've bought in a heartbeat had I never read the article.

Twin Pines is selling used Model 10s - from Hong Kong or some other police force that doesn't use them anymore - at P17,000 each.

If it's a Model 10 then it is not a 5 shooter. Keep your watch, the Model 10 is the most prolific revolver in the world (Smith made millions of them for both World Wars and untold numbers of PDs). Nothing special about it except that it is dead reliable and the parts are readily available (most K-frames will interchange internals with it). If you must have a 38/357 revolver, hold out for a 4 or 6in bbl K frame ( 13, 19, 65, 66) or L frame (581, 586, 681, 686, 686+)
