Who are your favorite Photographers?
I realized I don't know too many modern or historical photographers...
Who are your favorite photographers?
Historical: I like Edward Weston...
Modern: Zosia Zija
(I don't think she's very well-known....yet, but I really like her work.)

Ansel Adams. Saw some of his work on display at the Columbus (OH) Museum of Art back in 1985. Just breathtaking.

Besides some of those already mentioned, Alfred Stieglitz, and in particular his photographs from New York around 1900-1910. It is a humbling experience to see photographs not only of such genius but of such technical quality coming from the early days of the 20th century.

Tom Till from Utah.
If you're ever in Moab, check out his studio on main street.
First time I ever spent some "serious" money on a picture.
Goes without saying that Adams has to be mentioned.

Disturbing? Yes.
Beautiful? Absolutely not.
I wish that it had not been posted. I also wish that I had not seen it. I saw three or four, in hopes that they would get better. The images kept getting worse.

Witkin has never been my cup of tea. I really think he should be considered with painters since his images are generally so heavily manipulated. To me the great thing about photos is that they make us take another look at the world around us. Whether showing beauty of nature (Adams, Porter) or human suffering (Lang) he get to reflect more deeply on the things we see everyday. Surreal images can’t do that.

"Beautiful" is not necessarily the term I would choose either. Amazing, intriguing, shocking, stunning, are words more suited for this photographer. Future viewers should definitely be aware of graphic, disturbing images.
