I'm experiancing a problem in opening the Internet site links often posted here on Glock Talk.

When I click on the underlined or colored site link, the system takes a long while to tell me the page can't be displayed.

What do I have to set to enable me to connect to various sites from this one?

BTW, my system is a P4 1,7Ghz, 512Mb Ram, Win XP proffessional.

what web browser are you using?

do you have a pop-up blocker running?

The default browser is Google.com I think, how do you check this any how?

As for pop-up-blocker, it's Google's task bar type, very effective, no spam!

From your overly extensive computer skills and knowledge I would guess that you are using Internet Explorer. ( I am not trying to flame you, just haveing a little fun ) When you what to go to the web, do you click on the blue e on your desktop? If so you are using internet explorer. You have downloaded Google Toolbar and when you installed it it defaulted your homepage to www.google.com. OK that's out of the way.
I have not used Internet Explorer extensivly for some time now so my knowledge is also a little rusty. I would guess that you have a setting in there that tells your browser to open links in the same window. Glocktalk tries to open links in a new window. This probably is a conflict with Internet Explorer and Google Toolbar. The toolbar is probably seeing it as a pop-up.

Those are just guesses without actually seeing the problem.

Next suggestion. Stop using Internet Explorer. You can use other web browsers and do the same thing. The one that I have recently tried and really like so far is Mozzilla Firefox. No doubt you may have seen threads on the subject on this forum before. Here is the link to that. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

There are others too. Netscape, Opera, ... someone else chime in here. I don't know all the browsers names but there are many of them and most of them are free to download.

if you click on a blue "e" icon to open it, it's Internet Explorer.


check the options on your google toolbar and see if it is set to block pop-ups.

there might be an option to always allow pop-ups from a specific site. if that option is available, add http://glocktalk.com to the list (which is probably empty).

That error is only in IE. No other browser says, "Page cannot be displayed" they'll say "Cannot find site" or "Page not found" or "Cannot access start page"

Yeah, get rid of IE. Download one of the other browsers listed in this thread and see if you have the same problems. Chances are that's all you will have to do to fix this.

Do you use Outlook or Outlook Express? Don't.
