I just made a very strange discovery about Windows

I created a new folder, then tried to rename it PRN, which windows for some reason would not allow.

I tried this on 2 of my Windows 2000 machines with the same result, and my friend got the same on his XP Pro box.

Any explaination for this strange problem?

Just a guess

in the old days a ".prn" file was a printer file or printer-related - wonder if that's why?

The "PRN" is a system device. It's legacy code in the OS.

That was a strange way for me to find this out ;i

I was even using the command prompt to check for hidden folders and whatnot.
