The wait begins for the Boerboel pup!!!

Mom had her litter yesterday, and the owner sent me pics. Gotta wait 8 weeks to pick up my little meatball:

Boerboels are a South African Breed. Mostly Mastiff, with some bulldog and native South African dog. Bred to protect the kiddies on the farm. run from 120-175 lbs. on average.

heartbreak!!!

I'm not getting my puppy. I'm really busted up. I had put a deposit down for a "pet quality" dog. The breeder had more deposits for "Breeding quality" dogs than pups, and didn't have any pet quality ones (there were 9 in the litter but vet screwed up -not her regular one-on vacation- and said there were no more after 7-two more were born later in the car on the way home and didn't make it), so she was very sorry, but had to return my deposit.

Bummer. That is awful.

I think your breeder needs a new vet...if your vet don't have a good standby during vacation, it is time for a new one.

Misskitty-you ain't wrong about that! Lost the breeder between $2-4K, 2 beautiful pups, and broke a couple potential owners' hearts.

mhambi- you so wrong! That was funny. Thanks, I needed a laugh.

BTW- breeder has been great getting me in touch with other folks who might have litters coming. has gone way above and beyond. I may have a line on a pooch in NC, but I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

I feel your pain scowan007. I to had my hopes of getting a pup dashed as well. Fortunately it wasn’t due to death though. I have been waiting several months for this breeder http://barbersbulldogs.com/puppies.html to put two dogs together so I could buy a pup from him. Now that his litters are on the way a change in my work schedule makes it impossible for me to get one.

type in the name of the dog in Yahoo or Google and various webpages will come up.....

ALSO......check out Dog Fancy magazine....I am certain it is online and they have the classifieds online too.......Cat Fancy's webpage has all the classifieds on the site....... www.DogFancy.com
Also I think there is a magazine out there called "Dog breeder" and they have a webpage too......

Thanks, Peach!

The problem with Boerboels (which is a breed I have fallen in love with), is that is is quite rare and relatively unknown in the US. I have been doing some research, and am tying to keep my search narrowed to the reputable breeders whose names come up regularly in searches. That narrows the field to about a dozen people in the USofA. Yoiks!!!

Nelybarg- PM sent.

UPDATE- The wait is back on!!!
Put a deposit on a pup in NC. Its 6 weeks old, I am scheduled to pick up 2 weeks from today. Just got my plane ticket (believe it or not, it was only $50 buck more for me to get a round trip ticket, and take the pooch as carry-on, than it would have been to have the pup shipped).

Everybody please cross your fingers for me-no surprises!

Wash, Samson is beautiful. For some reason according to the SABT, eyes lighter than pelt is a minus on the evaluation, but I think those light eyes are amazing.

scowan007,no I'm American.I go often to South Africa.Samson is a family pet of some very good friends. They also have one small noisey dog that chases the geckos around the house and both dogs find snakes in the yard. The live in the city and have a pair of monkeys that stay in their fruit trees.I have friends out on a farm in South Africa too. They put all of their animals in a kraal at night. It's about 47 animals.Goats, ostriches, dogs and a bunch others. It's amazing to see all the animals get along and protect each other from wild animals.
