I've read a lot of his stuff. Fight Club was awesome but in his other stuff he just goes way too far into the weirdness. You have to be a bit out there to be interesting, but the problem is that people who go a bit out often can't tell when to stop. (As a matter of fact, Tyler Durden's character starts out that way: starts with fight club, then vandalism and mischief, and finally the master plan of project mayhem (not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it or seen the movie). Pahlaniuk does the same thing as a writer.

Don't bother renting it. If you liked the book you'll love the movie.

They did a great job editing the story to fit a 2 hour movie. They had to rearrange things and of course drop a lot, but everything flows together very very well. The notes in the extra DVD material about how they got the movie made are interesting; there was a lot of pushback from the studios about the subject.

After FC I read Survivor and one other, maybe Diary. They just got too weird in places. Can't think of any good examples, but FC is still the best of the bunch, IMHO.
