New arrival....need a range.

Good morning guys and gals,

My name is Steve and I'm moving to Lafayette next week for a job opportunity. I would like to get some information on ranges in the state.

I could probably find the information via google search, but I'd rather ask people who live in the area...I feel I'd make less mistakes and more friends that way.

Just a little info on me:

I'm a certified firearms instructor and I teach NRA pistol courses. I like shooting IDPA, AR-15's, and I'm starting to get the money together for a long range project (or two).

I'm going to do a little recon via IDPA to see what's out there, but I wanted to see how many people were watching this forum.

Well that search made me upset...I found out there are no IDPA clubs in the state....along with no Wells Fargo or Bank of America branches....

Where am I moving to again?????

Seriously people where do you shoot and what kinds of shooting do you do out here???

Hello Stevie. I live in N. Louisiana and one of the problems we have is that the majority of ranges are private. A lot of people just go "country" shooting. One of the things you'll need to do is go by a LGS, of which there are plenty in Lafayette, and ask about local ranges. Dave's Guns comes to mind. However, if you do ever find yourself in N. Louisiana around the Shreveport area, about 12 miles east is Clarks Custom Guns, and they have a range. It also happens to be the home of one Jerry Miculek.

I don't know anything about the ranges in Lafayette, but there's a nice indoor range in Baton Rouge, Precision Firearms and a small range at Bass Pro in Denham Springs, which is east of Baton Rouge. That'll be a bit of a drive for you, but it's an option.
