extended barrels: reliable?

Will the use of extended barrels on a semiauto, say a 6-incher on a CZ 75, adversely affect the gun's cycling?

I read in one magazine that some shooters keep a sig226 or beretta 92fs with an extended barrel and extended 20/30-round magazine as their primary weapon for home defense.
