Veteran's Day

A toast- Absent Comrades!

For all those who didn't come back...

This was written by a freind of mine, Col Art Pace, an serving Army Chaplain. He says it much better than I can-

Even as you read this, thousands of Americans this moment are sailing the seas, flying the skies, and marching the ground for the cause of freedom. Home for them now is not necessarily where families gather. Home is anywhere they can take off their helmets, and safely rest. Far from familiar surroundings, they serve our nation in dozens of countries that most of us could not even find on a map. These young and not so young men and women have a name. They are called soldiers, airmen, sailors, and marines. They come from across America. They are made up of all races, all faiths, all walks of life. They volunteered for active service, reserve, or National Guard. At home and abroad, the security and future of our country lie in the capable hands of a military force pledged to defend it. Some nations wisely suspect their militaries, fearing that they will one day overthrow their governments in violent coups. In America, for over 200 years, such concerns simply do not cross our minds. Our sons and daughters, husbands and wives, who serve the national defense, do so out of patriotic responsibility, and not out of personal gain. For their sacrificial service, they are paid a modest salary, and ribbons are pinned on their chests. All they ask of the citizens they defend are their prayers, and their respect. How do we say thanks for all that our military does for us? Stand tall when our flag passes by. Bring your families to Memorial Day and Veterans Day activities. And most of all, when you see someone in uniform, go up and shake their hand, and thank them for all they do to keep America free.
