CW9 Detail Strip

Thanks for the pdf file. It made the strip easy. I found a lot of oil, and a few very small metal filings, but it was not very dirty after 300+ rounds.

A little help. I can not for the love of Pete get past Step #4! I have a 1/16" punch I'm pushing in there. I feel nothing give. When I peer into that C shaped hole, it looks like there is a step -- do I want to push down on the inside or the outside?

This is an old, 2001 by serial number lookup, K9. New to me.

thanks,
Jab

You want to push on the lowest part in there sir so your tool-head needs to be small enough to pass into/through... hope that helps!

That might be too big. I use a small torx wrench, which is just the right size, and pretty strong.

I use a tiny jewler's screwdriver to push the rear pin in. It's a tight fit and a small tool is needed. You can usually find a small set of these for just a few dollars. Here's a pic of the one I use along with my homemade spring retainer gizmo.

I recently picked up a K40 98 elite, and that video helped a lot on the slide. I knew how to do it, but when I was pushing down on the back extractor pin I was amazed how much tension there was on it. That's why I thought i was doing it wrong at first. After getting it apart, I don't know if it had ever been taken down by the previous owner due to all the crud inside the striker channel. Definitely glad I tore it down!

Now am waiting for my smooth wood grips from kahr to get here so I can get rid of those nasty rubber ones.

Michigun: I'd like to thank you for your detailed write-up. Between it and ripley16's striker-compression tool I replaced my CW9's broken striker in only half an hour.

The coat hanger gizmos work great. Picked it up last year somewhere, maybe from ripley.

What video?

The pdf was wonderful. Very similar to my Glocks with a couple of twists thrown in for fun. I tried to tear my CW9 down with no manual and just remembering how my Glock came apart. I didn't pull down the striker spring enough so the tip on using the slide stop to hold it back was great. Also didn't know about having to compress the spring on the extractor. Once I got the rear cover plate off it was a done deal. I saved the pdf on my computer so thanks. I was also amazed at the amount of metal shavings etc that were in the striker channel. Good piece of business today getting this done. So how often do you do a detail strip? Every 500, every 1000, 2000 rounds? Juding by the amount of crap in mine I will probably do this again after 1000 to 1500 rounds. 500 is nothing but I think that the gun should be done before 3000 rounds for sure. I'm sure it depends on the ammunition used too. Some are just dirtier than others.

Thanks again,

Rick

They can be tight...find another small, thin bladed screw driver & pry/slide out the cover (wedge it in the crack between the slide & the top of the cover plate) while you depress down on the back of the extractor pin.

The slide is the easy part! What about the frame disassembly? Does anyone have a pdf for that? I was hoping to polish the internals and trigger components, as well as clean everything every year or so (without any sort of C/NC brake cleaner). I also enjoy understanding the mechanics and design, being an engineer. Thanks.

None that I know of... I know I've never made 1 cuz the ONLY time I say to EVER 'detail strip' a Kahr lower is to fix something that is broke... they are hard to take apart & even harder to put back together unlike the upper.
