I was in Barnes and Noble about a week ago and saw Revolver magazine's heaviest band list. 1st was Black Sabbath which is fine but the 2nd heaviest band according to them was fu**ing Soundgarden! WTF you MFers!? Soundgarden heavier than my Slayer? I could make a list a mile long of bands heavier than Soundgarden. That magazine lost all credibility with that seriously flawed ranking of heavy bands.

I think they mean heviest to the mainstream populace. I have no experience with that magazine, but Black Sabbath is freaking elevator music. If you like satanic stuff, why don't you listen to Deicide? Deicide pounds Slayer into dust.

I do listen to deicide and like Slayer much better. Slayer was ranked 6 or 7 on this list. Saying Deicide pounds Slayer into dust is not something I can remotely agree with.

Where do they get their music from if Soundgarden is second heaviest? Now while I haven't seen Soundgarden live for equal comparison, I have seen Slayer live, as well as Pantera, Sepultura, and some others that are definitely heavier than Soundgarden.

How much of the mainstream populace actually listens to real heavy metal?

I would expect such nonsense from a magazine like Rolling Stone but Revolver is supposed to be about metal. They have plenty of articles about non-mainstream bands all the time, including Deicide, Cannibal Corpse etc. That's what's so crazy about the whole thing. I now wish I would have looked at where some other bands ranked but I threw it down.

Speaking of BS rankings anyone ever see VH1's badass band countdown? I'm almost certain Guns 'N Roses was in the top 5 while Slayer, Type O Negative, and I guarantee you one serious bad dude, Glenn Danzig were way on down the list. Who would like to see Axl Rose and Danzig get in the gravel?

Ha! You know, I like Guns N Roses, but as far as badass bands, they are NOT! I guess we should expect that from VH1, though. The main singer from Type O Negative is a scary guy! Glenn Danzig looks intimidating, but I saw an interview with him a long time ago, and he came across as so friendly and conversational that he contradicted his hardcore image a little. The Looney Tunes decorations at his house helped that, too!
