I'm completing my 1st year and had the big test with Chief today. I'm happy to tell y'all he treated me well! Naturally, he asked nothing from the books or the maps (which I know well) and focused instead on scenarios. Now that it's all over I can say things weren't nearly as tough as I expected. I asked my Captain why Chief didn't drill and grill me and he replied "He already knows you know that stuff".

I didn't even get wet. How did your tests go? Did they live up to the anxiety they caused?

I actually just became interior qualified yesterday. That allows me to jump on the supression engine without waiting for an officer's approval. As soon as I learn and pass a test on the hydraulic tools, I'll be qualified on our rescue engine as well.

I also got a nice black NY helmet that everyone else here wears issued to me and turned in the yellow turtle shell that we give probies.;f
