What WEAPONS did you use in the service?

EDITED TO ACCOUNT FOR THE ANALITY OF GT VETERANS WITH REGARD TO WEAPONS TERMINOLOGY

New thread, let's talk about WEAPONS! While on active/reserve duty, what WEAPONS were you issued or exposed to? What was your favorite? For me it was like this:

Started with a Hi-Standard Supermatic Citation Military .22LR target pistol, as I shot on my NROTC unit's pistol team. Carried a welded-shut M1903 Springfield for drill, and felt really dumb cleaning and marching with a useless rifle-shaped hunk of steel.

Was trained on and shot Navy Rifle Expert with the M-14, and Pistol Expert with the M-1911 .45. All of my ships were equipped with both of those weapons, as well as with Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 12-gauge pump shotguns. (Generally, the 870's were superior to the Mossbergs - held up better and were just smoother to shoot and cycle.)

Also trained on the M-16 A2 and A3, the M-60 MG and the wonderful, thumping M2HB .50 cal. Shot Expert with the SIG P-226 as well. Got to shoot the MP-5SD once.

I won't count the Vulcan/Phalanx 20mm CIWS, or the Oto Melara 76mm rapid firing dual-purpose guns that were my shipmates on three ships. That's not personal hardware! ;f

Of all of them, I loved the M-14 the best, and that's why I shoot a Springfield M1A today. It's a truly great rifle.

As far as I know the only GUN the military issues is a 9 mil Beretta

But if you want to include rifles and our other weapons, well then, that's differant story!
Hahaha, sorry man, I just still remember DS jumping all over guys when they called their M16 a "gun".;a

Well lets see, Got my M-16A2 of course. I've shot a M-4, but I dont get one:( . I got my M249 (I love that lil gal). I think that's about it as far as firepower.

Now the real cool stuff though like the M203 and AT4!!!!! Those were fun to shoot!

7.62 = M60, M240B

Other: M203, MK19

Non-lethal: Pepper spray, PR24 & collapsable PR24

M16A1
M16A2
Ma Duece ;f
M60
and currently the M9 as a medic.

My current National Guard unit that I'm deployed with didn't get M9s till '95. If I had came in one lousy year sooner (I was still on active duty) I could have been issued an M1911A1, even though it wouldn't have been for too long it would have been nice.

I shot expert with the M-16, S&W .38 and Beretta 9mm. I also attended a weapons familiarization course where we got to learn about and shoot Warsaw Pact small arms, including the AK-47, AK-74, RPD, RPK and Makarov pistol. On several occasions I got to shoot the H&K MP5, M-60 and M-2 Browning.

Hmm... I wasn't aware the Navy issued weapons. You must have served with a Marine unit eh? Just busting your b@##s.
I also own a Springfield M1A and love it to death. I wish I would have been issued one of those bad boys instead of the crappy little 5.56mm M16s. Why couldn't the DoD have stuck with a 7.62mm battle rifle?

Molon Labe? They must teach that in officer candidate school or something, because all my Liutenants and Co's loved that phrase.

M-16A2, M9, M249, M240, M-2.

My favorite however, is far and away the GE M-134 6 barrel mini, I've only been on a bird with them twice, and both times on a range, but the little time between the handles was awsome,

I only had significant time with the Beretta 92, while I was stationed with the Marines as a Navy Corpsman. The Beretta was the only weapon issued to Corpsmen. I also spent some time behind the trigger of an M16, but not much. Just enough time to be able to practice and qualify.

This is my rifle, this is my gun....

I got the expert pistol qual with a .38 S&W revlover. And I made a few strafing runs in the A-4 with a 20mm cannon. And I dropped a few MK-76s. And that's it.

The only thing I really shot a lot of, when I was in the Navy, was electrons. ;f I was in the EW community.

I was issued..........

In June 1957, at PISC I was issued a M-1 Gerand(SP). I carried it till I was discharged. The second time I went in I was issued a M-14. Never liked it..flash hider always loose, upper hand-guard made out of Mickey Mouse plastic. Wasn't worth a flip at 500yds like the M-1. Second time also had a .45 (International Harvester)I think. - 'ole joe

Alright, here we go. I've been trained on the M16a2, m9 beretta, m249 saw, m60, m203, mk19, Maud Deuce, and the Stinger Missle. My favorites would have to be the MK19(fully automatic 40mm grenade launcher, or the Stinger Missle.

I started with and qualified on the M16A1 in basic training (Expert)and the Handgrenade (Expert).
Fam Fire with the M-60 GPMG.
The M1911A1 in MP School(Expert).
The .38 S&W model 10 and Colt Detective Special when attached to an MPI section(Expert).
Winchester 12 gauge shotgun on payrol escort duty.(Fam Fire)
M203 Grenade launcher on the M16A1 one range day, Fam Fire, 5 HE 40mm rounds.

In the Army Guard I became a 11B and had the M16A1.
Was assigned the Squad automatic rifleman job and qualified with the M-60(expert). Toted and again qualified with the M1911(the personal weapon of a M-60 gunner).
Cross trained as a 11H and was gunner on the Improved TOW Vehicle 901. Qualified with the TOW (expert) and actually was able to fire 1 live missle in training. The M1911A1 was my personal weapon while in the infantry as a TOW gunner.

Changed units back to MP and again the M16A1 and M1911A1 were the issued weapons.

Completely changed services with a hitch in the Air Guard. Made the aquaintance of the S&W Model-15 4 inch revolver, M16 rifle and the GAU 5 carbine. Was issued orders and a take home M14 rifle, long steel locking box, chains and padlock, while on the unit shooting team.

I was completely done with military service in 89 and never saw an issued M9 or M16A2. I have had both now in civilian form. A M9 special Edition from Beretta and a Bushmaster XM15E2 set up with the A2 upper and lower componants.

Did get to play with the M2 mounted on top of the M113 we had in the guard but never officially or qualified.

Those were the days!
