Has anyone done any caribou hunting? My Bother and I are talking of making a trip to Canada but want some advice on where and when to go. Also how much did it cost to bring all the meat home? Any special regulations I should be aware of?

I've never hunted caribou in Canada, but I did live in Alaska for 2 years and hunted up there. I would recommend that you set up the hunt through a licensed guide. Most of them will handle everything from hunting license to packing the meat for shipment. They will also take care of the permits required for shipping the meat and trophy back into the US. Believe me ,that's a big concern. If the permits aren't correct, it won't be allowed into the US. Check with companies like Cabelas. It might cost a little more, but it's worth it in the long run.

Why would you go to Canada when you could hunt Alaska? Just curious more than anything else.

Probably the only two reasons I would go to Canada to hunt would be, trophy size whitetail in Saskatchewan and woodland caribou in Newfoundland. Any other large game you could want is in Alaska.
