Help playing avi's in WMP10

I am having problems getting windows media player 9 to play avi files. I upgraded to WMP 10 and still no luck. I have triple checked and made sure avi files are enabled under the tool options. Anyone have any ideas?????

Here's a helpful testing site....

You might try WinAmp5; it is far better for most purposes than any WMP ever was. BTW, WMP 10 is buggy as hell on most systems...

You probably lack the proper codec for the video you're trying to play.

There is a program called GSpot that you can use that will tell you what codecs a video uses: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Just use GSpot to identify what codecs the avi needs and then find them on Divx Digest and install them individually.

Some might tell you to install massive codec packs but these usually cause just as many problems as they fix.

I only use WMP to play .wmvs.

VLC media player will play just about anything.
