What's the deal with Chrysler? They got good stuff and now craps like this.

The 300C and its SRT-8 are great cars by anybody's standards. The Magnum is funky but distinctive in its own way. And for those who want a fast truck with no regular trucking capability, there's the SRT-10. I'm hohum about it but at least it's something different.

Yet there was the Dodge Ram Rumble Bee and now Dodge Ram Daytona? Isn't it kind of gay or what? Putting graphics and spoilers on a standard truck and it's suppose to be some sort of performance special edition? Can you say factory domestic rice?

I've seen them all over the lots around here. Not my cup of tea. I bet my 76 Chevy Scottsdale with 350 and holley, glasspacks would eat it for dinner. It used to eat all the "LITTLE RED EXPRESS"es it wanted!

My memory kinda hazy these days, but didn't the Judge and the Road Runner/Super Bee all got engine and carb upgrades from the standard GTO and Charger?

First, what's with truck wings?? The air back there is horribly turbulent due to the back of the cab and now it's a pain to put things in the bed.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. It's a "hey look at me, I have a stock ram with dumb crap on it!" truck.

Personally the only sport truck I would even consider (make that want very badly ;f ) is the new Tacoma X-Runner. It has the power, performance, and ability to back up it's looks. Besides that, it isn't rediculously expensive and can actually be used as a truck (as in put big things in the bed, no fancy bed covers).

Why owne a Chrysler product?
I bought a 1967 Plymouth back in 67' on a Friday afternoon. The Salesman said they would fix the things I noticed were wrong. I took the salesmanager out on Monday. He acknowledged what needed fixing. When I ask when he wanted to start work..He said "BULL ****"!!!
He voided the Chrysler 5 years or 50,000 mile waranty 3 days after I bought the car. I complained to Detroit and they replied, "What ever the dealer wants to do". The "Lemon Law" had not been passed so, I had to eat the car. Never another Chrysler product.

Sorry about the above deleated profanity but, that is the Service Manager's 40 year old quote.

X-runner seems underbraked. I believe it is a disc/drum set-up with rotors that are under 11" in diameter.

Toyota claims the X-runner matches a 350z on thier test track and .9g on the skid pad.

Notice that the brakes have been upgraded with an optional package. No way are sub-11" brakes going to not fade in a truck that must exceed 3500lbs.

Still a lot of truck for the money. And it doesn't cost so much to worry about actually using it like a truck.

Besides all that power (alot for a V-6) comes with toyota awesome reliability and high resale value.

That optional supercharger sounds nice too. ;f

dont really see any use or need for a spoiler on a truck, or a car for that manner.

Kinda like a cheap version of retrospective of the past. WOW! How I wish for hood scoops that really work again like the past. Personally I like the new Magnum. Unfortunately I'm still paying off my Durango.

FN, roadrunner 383's had a slightly warmer cam than the standard 383 4bbl(and a special torque convertor as well). 440's were the same as other performance 440's, although it didnt debut (in 4bbl form)til '70. the '69 440 6bbl had a special low taper cam for high rpm reliability. the '70 4406bbl was not equipped the same and had an iron intake instead of the beautiful alloy edelbrock. chrysler was not the most glamorous of 60's and 70's cars, but the engineering was solid and the cars worked. try to launch a 396 68 camaro(or any coil spring rear car) against any leaf spring mopar and you will see one genuine advantage that they had(at least on the strip). my first car was 69 charger. it was deep green with a white top and black leather. it had factory air and was the most beautiful car i have owned and the one i would want back if i could have that wish. the engines just plain were tough and you never heard of one having serious mechanical trouble. the 727b is the toughest transmission ever used in a passenger car and the 8&3/4 and dana 60 rears were the stuff of legend. before the use of high stall convertors, some racers just revved the egine to the desired launch rpm and punched 1 on the pushbutton tranny control(reportedly as high as 7000 rpm). stuff of legends indeed.

after driving a hemi truck recently that came through the GM dealer where i am a (ase/GM master) tech, i was very disappointed. the old chrysler is gone for sure. a victim of international economics and policies. but the old stuff is still the king in my mind...fwiw.

My dad just bought a brand new '06 Charger. First one in the county for sure, maybe the first purchased in the state.

No, it doesn't look like the old chargers, and it doesn't do good power brakes, but it sure as hell runs good down the freeway!

He's got his '70 Charger as well, I prefer the older one for fun, but if I was gonna drive one of them everyday, I'll take the newer four door.

383 magnums(and super commandos) had a hotter cam then the standard 383. I have a friend who built a stock 383 w/ all road runner parts, stock compression, stock manifolds, stock everything. Only thing was it was bored .030 over and had an electronic ignition but it even had the correct carb on it.

He dynoed it and it pulled 338 HP. He said they made every bit of there advertized power rating, and with a bigger carb(like the 750 AVS off 440s) and a set of headers it jumped close to 375 HP. Then he swapped the intake and the cam and it was up to 450 HP at around 6500 RPM...
