Free Antivirus

Just purchased a new Dell laptop that does not come with antivirus software. Any free ones available via download that holds their weight in regards to performance?

OS is Windows XP home edition.

Avast is excellent.http://majorgeeks.com/download1968.html Scanning is not automatic and can take a long time if you have a lot of files. It will monitor and protect your system full-time.AVG is a bit easier to use http://majorgeeks.com/download886.html Anti Vir may be a bit stronger than AVG but most of it's support is in Germen with limited English support http://majorgeeks.com/download955.html

DWavs, AGV has my vote....

Hey D.C., I tried the AGV and it found and fixed 3 viruses on my PC.

I want to thank you for the information on AGV.

I like AVAST. The thing updates like nobody's buisness. Keep in mind, going on-line with out an av to download an av is risky. I would get a friend to download it for you, install it, then go on-line to update it.
