Are you supergeek enough for this?

Click the image to open in full size.

So you think you're hardcore, huh? Now you can prove it with the Das Keyboard specially designed for Super ÜberGeeks. The Das Keyboard comes standard with absolutely no writing on ANY of the keys. The Das Keyboard is also made with individually weighted keys making certain keys easier or more difficult to push depending on the figers used to push them.

If you are an elite programmer who can write sophisticated code under tight deadlines, someone who makes impossible projects possible; or a Silver Web Surfer your colleagues turn to when they need IT advice: this keyboard is for you. Shouldn't your keyboard reflect your status as one of the elite? We think so!

Das Keyboard is an enhanced 104-key USB PC keyboard equipped with 100% blank keys mounted on precision and individually weighted key switches. Since there is no key to look at when typing, your brain will quickly adapt and memorize the key positions and you will find yourself typing a lot faster with more accuracy in no time. It is amazing how slow typers almost double their speed and quick typers become blazing fast!

Most keyboards use a standard 55 grams of force required to register every key, Das Keyboard has 5 different levels of force. The keys are divided into groups and their feedback springs are weighted differently; from 35 grams to 80 grams, which correspond to the strength of the finger that touches the keys. The result is more comfort for your hands.

Das Keyboard is compatible with all modern operating systems and has a Windows menu key that also works under Linux. Macintosh addicts will be happy to know this keyboard works well for them too.

Das Keyboard is built from premium key switch technology that rivals or surpasses the best available keyboard today. The keys are factory tested to withstand over 30 million keystrokes, providing the ultimate in comfort and durability. The keyboard also features three Windows application keys.

Keyboard Features:

PC Enclosure Reference Model
Black color with matching black cable, Darth Vader approved
Enhanced 104-Key Layout
High-quality membrane switch technology
Three Windows keys
Keys withstand over 30 million keystrokes
USB cable

System Requirements:

DOS, Windows 3.1 or higher. If you still use DOS or Windows 3.1, please send us a postcard screen shot

I may need one of those. Some of my servers keyboards are sitting under shelves you cannot see around/under enough that it would be interesting to see how much I actually do glance at it.

I use ergonomic keyboards, i find the standard keyboards like that one too cramped and uncomfortable to use. I would be useless with any standard config / size keyboard.

I would lose productivity if i got one

I don't think I would have a problem using it, but I'm with USCG.. I hate keyboards like that. I love ergonomic keyboards. Unfortunately, I'm on a laptop most of the time and don't use a normal keyboard.

There was a post on /. about 3 weeks ago covering it. I touch type about 85-90 words a minute so it does not matter to me if they keys are marked or not. I just hate the way that the \ is never the same between keyboards. Some below <enter> some above.

I ususually use remapkey.exe in the windows resource kit anyway to move some things around.

That is hardcore. I might have to get one just so I can see the reaction on my freinds faces. They already give my crap because my hardware is bleeding edge, I'm always tweaking or tinkering with something and my case is never on but I use the cheapest keyboards and mice I can find. I think the one I'm using right now cost me about $5.00 at Big Lots. When they get too grungy or I spill coffee on them, it's great to just toss them and plug in a new one.

That would be cool, at least for the novelty factor. I could use it, but I would have trouble with some things, like the number pad (havnt gotten that down yet), and inst, home, pg up... etc. I can type with out looking though.

Many years ago, I played a prank on this older gal, where I popped several keys out of her VT keyboard and plugged them in randomly. To my shock and dismay, she came back to her desk and started back to her data entry without missing a beat. She did not even notice.

How much does it cost?

If you can live without those Weighted Keys, why not take some
of this
Click the image to open in full size.

And simply spray your old keyboard with it if this concept appeals to you?

Then again, people who could buy a Timex sometimes spring for a Rolex. To each their own.

BTW, I do not touch type but I can indeed hit 60 wpm with no errors on most days. I COULD use one of these 'blank' keyboards, but I think I will be OK without one.

If I see one in use, though, don't be surprised if its PC is set to use a DVORAK keyboard when I leave! ;b ;f ;a ;f ;b

The sad part about this is that I can actually use this keyboard and not have any problems. So yes, I must be a supergeek ;a I might even get one if it is cheap.

Same thing here. Why the fark would I spend 75+ on a keyboard when I can take one from the pile and strip all the letters off with a dremel.
