FWIW, FSU PD will take custody of a firearm for a student. Furthermore, they keep M-16s when the ROTC trains with them (my uncle is CO of the ROTC here).

If I was going to be here longer, I would consider lobbying for CWP holders to have the ability to carry on campus, even if not in class. But, you have to consider that to get a CWP you have to be 21 and that excludes a majority of the Undergraduate population

I don't know the school's policy on firearms. I've looked in the code book and can't find anything on it.

However, it is illegal to carry in any educational building in the state of Texas. I lock up my Glock in my truck when I'm at school. Then unlock it when I get inside my truck to leave. The campus is statistically very safe, especially in the early part of the day when I am there. I'm not gonna walk around campus by myself at 3 a.m. though.

Do you know if any normal student has ever been given permission to carry by the official you mentioned???

My gues is NO!;b

Ask if he will send you what the Vice Principal sent him for permission. Also note he isn't a student.

DEFINATELY not first hand info, but I guy I know knows a guy who has a couple restraining orders on people and I guess he got permission from the VP. So...there you have it. It might be worth a battle if there were a bunch of people interested...

I attend UVSC in Utah. I think they have a no guns policy, not sure. Utah state law says you CAN carry in public/state schools w/permit, so I do. No problems. I like it

I'm doing an online Master's program. I can go to class wearing nothing but my underwear. So CCW is not really an issue.

However, I did my undergrad at Utah State University. State law says CCW with a permit is okay on any state-owned property with a few exceptions. Schools are not on the list of exceptions. So I carried there every day. The school did not make an issue of it, and neither did anyone else.

I understand the University of Utah got their panties in a wad and threatened to expel any student caught carrying, and there seems to be an ongoing lawsuit related to the matter.

I go to Finlandia University in Hancock, MI (way up UP on the Keweenaw Peninsula). By state law, I can carry anywhere on campus except the actual classroom. I can carryy in the halls but not while in class, basically.

The university policy is only if you have an "unrestricted" permit, with unrestricted meaning you are a LEO, correctional officer or probation/parole officer and are basically exempt from "no carry zones" by statute. Long guns and bows must be checked and registered with security with NO AMMO. No handguns are allowed on campus unless you have an "unrestricted" permit. OC spray is allowed on campus if you register with security. Same goes for knives, except they restrict you to 3" or less (I got lucky and was approved to carry my 4" Cold Steel. They said it's because I am in the CJ program).

The worst that could happen if they found out I kept my pistol in my truck (if on campus) is I could get kicked out. There is nothing legally they can do about it other than revoke my admission. I leave my pistol locked in a safe in my truck and park on what is technically a public street running through the campus. By doing that, I am not violating any university policy because my weapon is not on campus.

I'm attending the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for an associates' in Mechanical Design, and the campus CCW policy is in line with that of the rest of the state, unfortunately.

Colorado State, all 9 public universities in Utah and one other that I can't remember are the only 11 in the nation that allow CCW. Pretty lame. Arizona is working on getting the law changed to allow carry on school grounds.

I attend college in Oregon. The policy is "Keep it hidden, don't ask-don't tell."
Our campus security is UN-armed, which is completely asinine.
I've heard that the state legislature is working on fixing that little problemo.
None too soon.
