22 caliber pistol for wife with weaker hands

Hi there.
My wife has been considering shooting with me now. And I am thinking for her best target shooting would be a 22 cal semi auto so she could eventually try my Glock 19 (once its fixed) and it won't be foreign to her.

She has arthritis in her hands, so they can be kind of weak and get tired. I'm thinking 22 offers to lowest recoil for her. But also need something with a light trigger pull for her. And possibly an easier slide racking.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

If she has arthritis in her hands they most likely won't get stronger or better. With a semi auto teach her to push and pull with both hands. This may help some. My wife has the same problem and we have decided a revolver is the best solution for her. We have been looking at the Ruger LCR in 22mag but haven't purchased yet due to all the current gun fever.

the ruger LCR triggers are not that great in the rimfire guns. you might try or she might prefer a S&W .38spl with target loads.

Ruger single ten might fit the bill or the sr22 if she can rack the slide.

I recently bought a Ruger MKIII 22-45 Lite and put a Bushnell Red Dot on it...and my wife stole it from me

You can buy some Wolff replacement springs that will lighten up the trigger. Did that to my Taurus 94, 85CH and my S&W 442. I left the mainspring alone to insure reliability.

Or, drop it off at a good gunsmith and have him do a tuneup.

Gf also has small weak hands but she been doing great with
her glock 19... by the way i have S&W .38spl and she hated
it and we change loads and she still didnt care for it..
She said it was too snappy for her... we are in the market
for a .22 but for the price you are going to pay right now...
its best to wait all this madness out...

Oh try finding ammo for a 22 .... IMO i would fix the g19
and let her try it... we let our nieces shoot it and they both
are tiny and love it... take your time with her and you might
look into getting her some wrist support when you do go
target shooting...that way she might be able to shoot
longer and less stress on her hands..... good luck

Ruger SR22. For a .22 pistol, the slide is pretty easy to be pulled back. Also light trigger pull and very small grip.

I was pleasantly surprised shooting a friends S&W M&P .22lr pistol yesterday. Size and looks wise it had a strikingly resemblance to the S&W M&P 9mm, except the .22 version has an alloy slide whereas the 9 has a steel slide. Pretty much the same ergo's as its bigger centerfire M&P's. Anyway, the M&P 9 shot great and I was pretty impressed. You might want to checkout the M&P .22 cuz until yesterday, I wasn't even aware of the S&W had a M&P .22 pistol.

If she is going to end up shooting in the long run... IMHO why spend $400 on a 22lr
when you can get a New G19 for $100 more....

22lr pistols arent cheap anymore most going for $350 (thats the low balling) right now
everybody wants over $400 for a .22 pistol... Yes i understand Ammo isnt cheap..
but if its going to be her main gun... it might as well be something bigger then a .22
IMO...

IMO...

I have a Glock 19, and I have a USP 40c.

We have a range within a 90 minute drive that will rent out weapons, up to full auto rifles even, and she is going to try out a couple of the 22s in her hand and slide action as trigger pull before we make a decision.

If she ends up liking how my 19 shoots and can handle it, which I am afraid she might not be able to, we will go that route.

I'd rather her have a 22 she can shoot at someone 10 times instead of a 9mm she might only be able to pull the trigger once. If she can rack the slide.

on a side note, if she can handle the 19... or maybe even a 26 for 398.00. It'll be mine just left on her side of the bed when I am not home.
