Microsoft Task Manager Problem

I don't know what I did, but the taskmanager window that comes up when you ctr-alt-del , it originally had the button with the X in the corner to close it out.

I did something on accident on night (not sure what) that caused the X button to disappear. As a result, if I ctrl-alt-del, the window comes up, I can end whatever program is giving me trouble, but I cannot close that damn box for anything. It stays on top the whole time. Only way to get rid of it is to restart. I cannot even go to the taskbasr and right-click close on it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Here's a screenshot of it:

Q:
Some users can't close the Windows XP Task Manager. There is no exit button anymore. I think it's caused by a setting in the policies. Does somebody know which setting will activate the menu bar?

A:
Nope, it's not the fault of the policies. According to Microsoft, the menu bar and tabs may not be visible if Task Manager is running in the daintily named "Tiny Footprint mode". If you double-click the empty space in the border around the tabs, Task Manager switches to this mode. To switch Task Manager to its typical display mode, double-click the top border of the window.

your first mistake is saying you did something "on accident" -- NO, you did it BY accident or ON purpose. why do so many people say that today?

you remind me of an old boss that always said "misfortunately".

it may be a misfortune but it is unfortunate that it happened.

NOW CHILDREN PLAY NICE!

I learned another stupid feature of Windows I didn't already know. Why in the world would you want the tabs to go away in task mrg?

Its something to use and then close....like to kill a process. You dont leave it sitting on your desktop....useless feature...

I usually ignore spelling and grammar mistakes even though some posts I have seen here are so bad it is hard to be sure what the poster meant. The common language of choice in the U.S. and here on Glock Talk is English. Language only works as long as we are all speaking, or writing, the same one. Language is another area where the public schools are failing dismally. They now teach "creative spelling" and "personal grammar" as if they are legitimate linguistic concepts. I was an interim sixth grade teacher a few years ago and was told by the school to disregard spelling and grammar errors if I could somehow divine what the student was trying to say. If everyone mangles the language any way they please we are back to the Tower of Babel. So my advice to you would be to try and use correct spelling and proper grammar even in an informal setting like this one.

Windows is retarded. For example, renaming files. This is something rather destructive, and yet, how many times a day does one accidentally end up in file rename mode? Working over VPN there are delays in the UI, and I swear half the time when you click on a remote file it will assume that you want to rename it and you have to cancel it.

Nickg, I cannot imagine the boredorm you must be experiencing in order to have taken the time to correct the post. Son, get a damn life.

Being a member of the grammer police automatically qualifies you for the Asshat award. But in your case, yours will have gold piping.

Are you using remote desktop or something like Norton?

Try switching to the "Performace" or "Networking" tab and then go into tiny-mode. You get an interesting little widget that you can resize and keep in the corner of your dektop to monitor performance. Of course, you could run perfmon too.

PS. Extra points to those that can identify all the mistakes in this post.

I know people who rarely use the mouse at all. You can close it using Esc.

Ok, here we go:

1. "Performace"
2. dektop
3. ,
4. too

I believe that is all.
