How to "nuke"

The time has come to clean up my older laptop. I want to format the drive...and can find instructions on how to do it with XP and 98......but unfortunately mine is running 2000ME.
Does anyone know where I can get reliable step by step instruction on how to do this?????? I DO have the original "system restore" disks.
Thanks in advance!

Download DBAN, burn the iso with Nero, boot and follow the prompts. Let it run overnight.

I have a 5 year old laptop with a PIII 700mhz, came with WindowsME.
Almost threw it out last year because of too many crashes/blue screens, but decided to try installing XP Home.

I did the f-disk thing in the DOS prompt window, reformatted to NTFS instead of the old FAT32 when I installed XP Home. Runs like a champ.

If you are selling that laptop formatting it is not the way to sanitize the disk. It can be recovered with minimal effort. You didn't mention why you are cleaning it, so that's just a little FYI for you.
