G35: your honest review

Greetings from Bohol!
I'm new to GlockTalk and I'm seeking your evaluation/advice on the G35(.40S&W). I'm seriously considering getting one for home defense and occasional weekend target shooting with friends. This will be my first handgun. My alternate option is Norinco 1911A1 .45ACP. I narrowed my choices to these after my readings and internet search. Any bits of information from all of you will be trully appreciated.

a glock is a glock is a glock! whatever glock model you get, it should and must run without any problems nor hiccups if you let it do what it was designed to be used for and if you do your part.

that being said, a glock in any configuration is soooooo reliable that it becomes boring to a fault! if you're the kind of guy that expects his equipment to run like clockwork, first time, and all of the time, the glock will serve you well.

if you're the type of guy who likes to experiment and tinker with your toys, then get a 1911 or a hicap 1911/2011 in 40 cal!

Yan ba yung 40cal?
I'd go with the 9mm g17 if your a newbie
Mas madali sa licensing plus hindi maproblema sa reloads and madami avaliable na iba ibang defense rounds
Dont use reloads na ginagamit sa 40cal std guns , bka hindi kayanin ng glock

If you want an ugly, no nonsense, functional and reliable pistol needing minimum maintenance and goes bang every time you pull the trigger, then get a glock 22.

If you want an uglier, no nonsense, functional and reliable pistol needing minimum maintenance and goes bang every time you pull the trigger, then get a glock 35.

Never would understand why Gaston Glock cut up portion of the slide and expose the barrel of an otherwise good gun and not lose sleep over it.

well, I have a G22,does not rust,its not that ugly,but quite boring and everytime you pull the trigger,it goes bang.lots of parts readily available at gunstores.suggest you test fire the G35 or G22 or G17 and decide which one will be right for you.hey,this is glocktalk,get a Glock!Goodluck!;c

got the 34(9mm), its close to the 35. nice handling gun and easy to shoot well. the cut up portion does not bother me at all

Get a Glock! Walang pogi points yung Norinco unless you spend a small fortune on it. Might spend more time with the gunsmith than going "BOOM!" in your hands! Pag newbie ka (like me!) gusto mo araw-araw nasa range. Mas mataas din resale and daming parts available. And if you have any thoughts about eventually getting a PTC and carrying everyday, get a G19! Then get a G17 or 22 for competition. Then get a 26 for your wife. Then get a 26 in OD green for yourself for when you wear light clothes. Then get a 23 for more stopping power. Then get another 17 and mod it for full-auto fire! Then get a tattoo on your chest saying "GLOCK PERFECTION".........

Exactly the path I took.

Got a G19 early on for carry. Then got a G17 for competition. Then a G26 for very discreet carry. Was batting for a 22 or a 23 when the missus stopped me.;m For fear of losing my marriage, I disposed the G26.;f Luckily I did not get into the "tattoo" stage.

If I were you I'd start with the 9mm, either the 17, the 19 or the 34. More reloads available, easier processing of FA license, easier handling, etc.

I also have a Nork which I dressed up and shoot every now and then when I feel like remembering the good ol' days.

GO wiht the 17 and you can use it in production class.

ill go against most. 1911

But with what you have on mind on its use the 17 is aok.

If you have a little more mulla. go for the hk usp 9 or 45 or the sig 226 (more pogi points) plus almost as accurate as my SVI

"naka HK or naka sig" Is what i hear when i go to a range and someone sees it. (made in Germany)

whatever your choice practice with it.

Try both and see what feels better. But in the long run, I think a 1911 is hard to beat.

i dont have a glock yet but handled 17 and 30. they are both excellent piece of kit. as for the 1911, i have a few in my wardrobe hehe. mas maganda bili ka marami para marami ka kalikutin at himasin. ;f ;f ;f ;f

The G35 was designed mainly for competitive shooting, if you want home defense then I say get G22. There's more recoil felt on the G22. I don't have both but I have shot both.

I'm planning to do some friendly weekend competition with friends. I'm more concern with the recoil of G35. Is it a lot "tamer" than a G22. I have only tried to shoot a frien's G22 and think the recoil is quite strong.

Hi Sir Boholglock,

The 1911 and the glock are very good pistols. My advice is, try shooting both alot and scrutinize each one before buying. The rounds you fire may add to the overall cost of selecting which is which, but if you can only have one for the meantime, its well worth it, and its actually fun.

The glock may be very reliable but when I first tried it, got alot of stove pipe jams since I don't lock my wrist when firing. At the time, I haven't learned the basics of shooting. After learning the basics...no jams occured but...at times, my left hand would catch the slide stop when my hold slips thus locking the slide back with the magazine not empty.I practiced my grip diligently and now my left hand does not slip anymore so the glock is now very reliable in my hands. I love its accuracy and controlability & in it comes in a neat compact package (g19).

On the otherhand, when I was just new in shooting...the first pistol I shot was a 1911 armscor and 1911 colt s70...I experienced no malfunctions what so ever even if I limped wristed them which I do often when I was new. Years later, even after getting a glock (got a glock since the 1911 I wanted, colt is more expensive...but I'm gona get one in the future...thats for sure), I find that I shoot better groups with the 1911 than with my g19. Its probably because of the single action trigger ang the longer sight radius of 5" gov model.But my friend who was a beginner at the time always experienced trigger lock since for some reason, he does not activate the grip safety effectively even if he grips the pistol firmly (the same 1911 I used).

I'm a 1911 fan myself but I'm seriously considering the GLOCK 35 since its the closest GLOCK model that comes close to a 1911. I must agree with you top 1911's cost prohibitively. In my place, gunsmithing is not always accessible. I'm thinking G35 is good out of the box. I only read most reviews on G34 not much on the G35. I'm going for it. For now it's 70-30 in favor of G35. I hope I'm not wrong. I still welcome your thoughts on the G35. Again thanks a lot.

Was seriuosly considering a glock 34 before I got my first glock, but eventually picked up a 26 in the process..even used it on my first IDPA @ armscor...Doc EC, remember, less than 2 feet yung board, mike pa!!! But well the 26 is for carry, not competition...;f ;f ;f (nag papalusot lang po...hehehe)

Well just like sirs django and bikethief, got my self hooked until i got this caving for...GLOCKS^7 ^7 ^7 . Ended with a 17, and a 22...and they are right! It will NEVER stop there!

I dont know if everybody will agree, but the 1911 is the best pistol ever made. Point of aim is still unrivaled...but all of them have there own advantage, and disadvantage. you just have to find the perfect fit, sa sarili mo. So try and shoot before finalizing your choice.

Shoot safe....!

Because not everyone have a G35 and are commenting on their experiences with their Glocks. You can't go wrong with your decision, seems to me that nothing can dissuade you otherwise and you're all set to buy one.

When comparing handguns kasi and we try to talk about recoil, it's really very subjective. Lalo na if we don't have any first-hand info about your background when it comes to shooting.

If you're an IPSC competitor with a few matches in your belt, you'll find the 1911 better/easier to hit than the glock 35. The Glock 35 will also recoil/flip/hit-your-hand "harsher" at the same power factor.

And even though halos pareho ng length yung G35 sa 1911, you'll notice the G35 will handle and point "funny". That's because the G35's weight distribution is more in your hands (with a full mag). Whereas the 1911 will feel more balanced kasi mabigat siya all around.

Now we come to the Philippine setting and specifically to the area you're located. This time you'll need to answer two questions; Are your local reloaders for the 40 cal reliable?

If No, are you willing to spend the money on factory ammo for the G35? If No uli, the G17 will serve you better.

It seems that G35 is not that good after all (considering the points you've raised). I've tried firing a 1911 and feels comfy with the recoil. are so saying G35's is worse? Anyway thanks for the advice.
G35 cost 45,900 I think. Is this a deal?
